The barangay was named CAN-UPAO when once upon a time; there lived a simpleton who had a habit of roaming around (suroy-suroy)
The place at all times, people especially the YOUTH and SMALL CHILDREN would shout him “UPAO” (baldheaded). So when people were asked where they going, they would readily answer, “SA KA- UPAO” if by chance they were going in the direction. This went for a time until the day came when the two words were joined to “CAN-UPAO” for euphony.
