Chapter 2 - You can hear me?
Driving for almost 30 minutes in to the island, we finally started to see houses, then further in you see the main town. We still had to drive past the town and 20 more minutes after that.
The town was very small and close together. It looked comfortable, a lot people waved at us as we drove by. Which I thought was weird but yet it felt genuine. I was surprise, when I caught myself waving back and smiling. This was so out of character for me. I usually tried to stay away from people not welcome them.
"You know, you should really think of getting a job." My mom pointed out. "It will help you make friends your age."
I scoffed, "I doubt anyone here was alive, when I was born."
"No probably not, but there are many nineteen year olds here, I bet." She pointed at a crowd of teen by a restaurant. "Look their are some over there!"
"Yeah sure why not. So they can smile and tell me how pretty I am, but secretly hate me and talk bad about me. Did you forget I could read minds." I smiled sarcastically. A gift and a curse at the same time. I most of the time keep out of peoples heads but some thoughts are really loud, if that makes any sense.
"Well then don't listen to them."
"Easy for you to say." I huffed. "You don't have peoples thoughts yelling at you everyday of your existence ." I crossed my arms and starred at the teens. "No you got the gift of teleporting." I grumbled angrily.
My mother just sighed and continue on driving in silence. She had the ability to travel to places that she had once visited. Not necessarily time travel, but it is a form of travel. I'm really not sure how we get these "Gifts", how they work or how its even possible, but then again I am a vampire. For all I know werewolves, witches and unicorns exist.
My gift is possibly the most useless thing ever. Why would I want to hear peoples thoughts. The way humans think is seriously mind boggling. All people think about is money, shït you don't need, and criticize one another. I don't know what other gifts there are, because I've never met another vampire besides my mother but why couldn't I have the gift of knowledge or something. To know everything academically possible, now that's useful. Who knows maybe I could of changed the world.
I was deep into my thoughts, that i didn't even noticed we arrived at our new house. it was an old style Victorian house, light blue and at least ten windows I could see. I use to live in one like this a few decades ago, I loved it. In all it was a beautiful home, a little big for just the two of us but ill enjoy living here. We had a few neighbors around us, maybe a mile down each side but I could still hear the mumbles of there thoughts.
I grabbed our bags and walked up to the front door. As soon as my mom opened the door, a scent hit me. It smelled disgusting, like wet dog mixed with dirt."Urgh. It smells disgusting in here." I cover my nose and walked towards the rooms. I knew which room I wanted as soon as I saw the house. In front, on the left side of the house laid a round room. In the old house I lived in before, we had a room like this one and it belonged to me. Its a very open, vibrant room, and that's exactly why I loved it.
Me being what I am, doesn't mean that I like the dark and I wear black clothes all the time. If I were in the same room as you, you probably wouldn't even give me a second glance. Other then drinking blood to survive, reading peoples thoughts, and occauanlly feeling peoples moods, I'm pretty normal. and no I don't sparkle, or burn in the sun. The sun is irritating, but we don't burn on instant contact. After a few hours in the sun, maybe you'll start to get a little roasted but other than that the suns fine.
We bought the house full of furniture, from the last owners. Of course we would eventually buy our own furniture but for now it will do. My room came with two dressers a queen size bed and a huge mirror, the room had a very relaxing mood to it, light blue walls that reminded me of the ocean. it was perfect, besides the stench that seems to be the whole house. Dropping my bags on the bed, i went down stairs to find Amara.
