"I love you" Lena says as she opens her eyes rolling over to Stef who is lying wide awake.

"You don't have to say that every single time you look at me you know" Stef says. She had heard Lena say these 3 words a lot since last night.

"I like saying them, it means something" Lena smiles but suddenly her smile turned into a frown.

"What you thinking about honey?" Stef could see the confusion on Lena's face. She could see Lena was thinking deep about something, something big and important.

"I- erm, did you mean it, well... did you really mean you want kids?" Lena was interested to see what Stef really meant. Was this something they're ready for?

"I did. I really did. I want to spend my life with you. You are the one and some day... I don't know when but a time will come where we both say 'I do' standing in each other's arms at the alter. Lena I want to marry you, I want to have kids with you, I want my life to be with you."

"Move in with me?" Lena thrown it out there, kind of like the 'I love you' she was mesmerised by Stef's words. Marriage, kids, life. It was all something Lena dreamed about and with Stef this was a dream come true.

"What? Are you serious?" Lena nodded smiling at Stef's excited reaction. "This is a huge step baby, are we ready?"

"I sure am. I don't want to wait any longer." Lena announced.

"So how are we having a child? Adopt? Or donor?" Lena smiled.

"I don't think I'm ready to carry a child. It is something I want, just not yet. I think we should foster for a little while and see where life takes us next" Lena was always optimistic, it's one of the treasuring things Stef loved.

"Ok, any preference, a young boy, young girl? A teenager?"

"I want us to be a family. A new start. A start where a child can grow in the family so maybe a younger child but I'd be also happy with a girl who I can go shopping for dresses and shoes or a boy we can take to the baseball matches. I really don't mind. I want this child to be our baby no matter the age."

"Stop rambling- we will talk to people, get a foster license and take everything one step at a time" Lena leant over at Stef, kissing her softly. This was amazing.

2 months had passed, Lena and Stef finally got their foster license and Stef had settled in Lena's home. Their home. It was a new start. A start they both was nervous for but ready for everything life threw at them. They were a power couple and could get through anything.

2 weeks had passed, and it was visit time. Lena and Stef went to the group home where children aged 2-10 lived. There was a girl aged 2 called Jessie, a boy aged 3 called benji, another boy aged four called jack, two twins aged 5 called Mariana and Jesus (pronounced H-ay-zoos) and another girl aged 7 called Leah and boy aged 10 called Zachary. The group carer welcomed Stef and Lena and told them to get to know the children so they did. Lena went to Jessie and benji who say playing blocks on a mat, she was great with little children, Stef followed and seen how amazing she was with little children, she was a mother to be. A mother whom was meant to be. But in the corner of Stef's eyes she seen Mariana and Jesus sat on the sofa alone looking sad.

"Hello, sorry to interrupt, are the two children by the window ok?" Stef asked the carer concerned from their vibe given off.
"They just arrived last week, they are shy, twins named Mariana and Jesus and are inseparable"

Stef left Lena to play building blocks as she walked over to Mariana and Jesus. "Hey buddies, you okay?" Jesus nodded and Mariana didn't show any response. She was most shy. "I got something for you" Stef pulls out two lolly pops. Jesus accepted his as Mariana started to look down at her shoes. Jesus took Mariana also handing it to her. She relied on her brother a lot, he was her Guardian.

Soon after Lena headed over to Stef bending down to her knees at eye level with Mariana and Jesus. "Hi, my names Lena"

"And I'm Stef" they both introduced them self waiting for a response, but Mariana didn't lift her eyes from her shoes.

"I'm Jesus, and this is my sister... Mariana" Jesus introduced themselves.
"They're lovely names. I'm a police women, do you want to play with the police cars on the car mat?" Stef asked them both. Jesus got up first reaching out for Mariana's hand. They had the strongest bond any sibling could have. They were inseparable and couldn't go anywhere without each other. They followed Stef to the car mat where they all sat. Stef and Jesus playing with the police cars and Mariana holding two cars in her hands, not doing anything with them.

"Brummmmm" Jesus started to come out of his comfort zone. Mariana looked up eventually at Lena and smiled. Lena felt overwhelmed finally getting a reaction from her.

"Hey darling, what cars have you got?" Lena asks sitting a little closer to Mariana. Mariana handed over Lena a car, a red car. After around 10 minutes of playing Lena looked up at Stef and jolted her head to her right indication to Stef she wanted to talk. They both stood up leaving Mariana and Jesus at the mat.

"What do you think?" Stef started

"I think all these children are wonderful"

"Lena, we can't just choose a child. They have to choose us, we need to know they will be happy with us. You were great with those little babies and Mariana and Jesus for that matter."

"I feel so sorry for them, they seem broken, they are lovely kids" as soon as she said that she felt a hand slip into hers, a small unrecognisable hand. She looked down to find Mariana holding Lena's hand. A tear instantly dropped from Lena's eyes. The carer walked over to Lena.

"Wow, she's never leaves Jesus, she must love you" she said to Lena. Lena continued to cry and eventually she went on her knees to hug Mariana. Mariana wiped Lena's tears away for her slowly brushing her tiny smooth hands along Lena's cheek.

"Are you ok?" She said in a high girly voice. She had spoken. It was wonderful and Lena continued to cry smiling widely and nodding as she held Mariana tighter. Mariana had finally opened up to someone other than her twin brother. It was a moment she wouldn't ever forget.

"I think they chose you" Lena heard from over her shoulder as she seen Stef with Her arm around Jesus's shoulders. Lena cried some more and sat Jesus and Mariana on the sofa.

"How would you like to come to my house. You can have a bedroom, with princes and cars. You can live with us" she said as she places her hands on Mariana's knees. Jesus looked at Mariana and smiled.

"How does that sound bud?" Stef asked Jesus tapping his knee. Jesus took his eyes of Mariana and nodded with a wide smile. Each other them thrown their arms around each other forming a group hug. A tear shredded from everyone's eyes as Mariana and Jesus left holding hands with Stef and Lena. They was a family. I family meant to be.
