she was gone the next
morning
which shouldn't have been
a surprise.

but he could feel
the hollowness
creep back into his chest
as he laid
staring at the ceiling.

he kept replaying
all the signs
inside his head,
thinking
of other hands
being where
his were supposed
to be.

he just kept thinking
until
it got to be too much
and he couldn't help
but stand up
and throw the lamp
that sat
beside his bed.

it shattered
across the room
broken pieces
flying in all directions.

he couldn't help it
he was so angry
so hurt.

it was then
he made his decision.
