Valeria
Its been a month after dad announced the news that we were going to move. I hated the idea of moving but I couldn't help but feel a bit excited. We were going to move into a house that was bigger than the one we have now. I was going to have my own room, there was going to be a backyard with a little pool and the yard was big enough to have a dog! Today was the day that we finally move in. All of our furniture was already there and we just needed to give the house life. It was only an one hour drive due to LA traffic but it was worth it. We finally got off the freeway and drove into a neighborhood. The houses were a little worn down but kept nicely. We passed by a house filled with guys watching us drive by. They were bald and they all looked dangerous. I kept note to not pass by there alone. A block down was our little house. The paint was faded due to the hot sun, the grass was dry and dead but with proper care, the house would look nice. My dad parked in the drive way and we all got out to stood outside the door looking at our new home.
¨Ready?¨ my mom asked us as she unlocked the door revealing the living room. We all gathered inside and looked around. Everyone had a smile on their face and instantly got comfortable. I went down the hall to my new room and flopped down on my bed. My brothers shared a room for the summer because Luis was soon going to leave to go back to college. My parents stayed in la sala talking about future plans. My mom got a job down the street in a daycare for kids. My father was going to start work in a few days and he was ready. Smiling to myself, I went outside to sit on the steps on the porch. I looked down the street to see a group of kids younger than me walking towards the house. I inhaled the new air and sighed missing the old Pasadena scent. One of the kids tapped on the fence protecting the house signaling if he could come in. He was small, about my height, latino, with big eyes and hair that most was likely bigger than his face. I nodded in agreement and they all walked in and stood in front of me.
¨So we heard that you're the new kid on the block,¨the girl in the group said, ¨we wanted to see and welcome you.¨ She was taller, light skinned, with crazy hair that suited her and had a big smile. I couldn't help but smile back at her.
¨Thank you,¨ I replied, ¨I'm Valeria.¨
The small kid named Ruby introduced himself and the rest of his friends. Monse was the girl and the kid next to her Jamal. A tall dark kid who looks way too jumpy. The guy next to him was Cesar, he was fit, handsome and had a nice smile. I invited them in and they introduced themselves to my family. They stayed for a little while before they said they had to leave to go to Ruby's house. I exchanged phone numbers with them and created a group chat. Sure, they were younger than me but they were my first friends ever since I arrived. On my first day as well.
The used to be blue sky soon turned dark with very few stars in the sky. I was in my room blasting Drake when my phone started to vibrate.
