I stared at the bracelet in confusion. I was in my house lying on my new bed-the two pieces of jewelry in my hands- with Lily sitting next to me and Liam across the room from us. "So, at the game, you two found out that the bracelet was what? Magical as well?" Liam asked.
"Oh please, Liam, you can't possibly believe that magic exists." Lily said taking the bracelet and necklace from me. She stood up and walked to the middle of the room. She glanced at me, then at Liam. "Well we could see if each of these have something in common. Like maybe certain chemicals?" Lily said. "Well, we all know that the pieces of jewelry are from each of us. Liam gave me the necklace and you gave me the bracelet." I said, standing up as well.
"I know that, but maybe something else. Do you think... maybe a microscope?" Lily asked, looking a little dumbfounded.
"A microscope? Really? I know science, but not well enough to differentiate germs and chemicals versus magical powers. And where would I find one? It's not like I have a 500 dollar microscope lying around." I said.
"Let's just use what we have. And that's our knowledge of each other. I'm pretty sure we can figure something out." I said, sighing.
"I guess so. Alright let's put some ideas out here." Liam said.
"One thing that we do know is that we are all connected with these items." I said, taking the bracelet from Lily and paced back and forth. Lily spoke up,
"Yes. Well, specifically we are tied to you, it seems. You are the owner of the items and we were the ones who gave it to you, which ties back to our whole friendship." "That's true. And we gave them to you on the same day, 2 days before your birthday. Although, we both left and yet, we went to different places." Liam said sighing.
"I feel like we're getting nowhere." Lily whined.
"Be patient, we've only said a few things that may lead to what we all are going through. We just need to piece everything together." I said, stopping to speak."Wait, at 5 years old, Liam and I could feel everything when we touched, but when you gave me the bracelet, nothing happened. What's that all about?" I asked. I started to pace again. "Well, what happened in between that time?" Lily questioned.
"I think all that happened was that I fell in the fire and I got treatment. But does that really reveal anything?" I inquired. I stopped pacing and faced Liam.
"What about your stepfathers wedding in 2 days? Maybe we can figure something out then." I said casually. I looked up to see that Lily was looking at him with disgrace. Liam turned bone white. "What's the problem?" I asked. "Liam, you never told me about your stepdads wedding. I've been here for over three months and you didn't think to tell me?" Liam looked as if he saw a ghost. "I- " "Did you only invite Octavia?" She asked, her voice shaking. Her green eyes were wide with rage. Liam's face flushed. "I did." She stormed out of the room. I stole a glance at Liam and he was looking from me to the swinging door of my French styled room. He followed her and I hesitated, but I followed him as well. Lily was at the end of the room, slightly out of sight from the windows enclosed around the bæ window. I stepped back, about to leave into the next room when I felt the LOL bracelet vibrate in my hand as if it was a phone on silent. Suddenly I heard their conversation as if they were standing right next to me. I turned to look at them and saw Liam sit on the cushions of the bæ window. They faced outside, so I wasn't seen. "Hey." Liam said sighing. He faced Lily, but she didn't move. "Look, Lily I didn't not want to invite you. That's true. But you've been through this already and I didn't want you to feel that way again." I knew that I shouldn't have been listening, but I couldn't will myself to stop eavesdropping. They were getting through an argument. Shouldn't I be able to know what happened between them? Probably not, but I kept on listening in.
"Liam, just because my parents got divorced too, that doesn't mean that I don't want to be there for you. This is an important time in your life and I don't think that I should miss it. No one should, really. Is there a reason why I'm suddenly not important because-" Liam cut Lily off. "Are you serious? Your always important, Lily. That'll never change."
"Well obviously I'm less important, because Octavia was asked first." Lily stated.
"Lily, if you still want to come, you are more then welcome. Really, I just wanted what was best for you and I thought that not letting you go through that terrible experience again would be best." Lily's parents were divorced when Lily was 5. Her mom got remarried to a stepfather that Lily hated, but her mom didn't seem to notice. Lily had found a record online that he was conducting experiments on animals and her father threatened her to never tell anyone. But, when Lily told her friend in Maine what he did, and her father found out, he was always horrible to her. Although, in front of her mother, he acted as if everything was fine. Lily took Liam's hand.
"It's fine, ok?"
"Ok. You know, if you want to, you can come with Octavia and I to the wedding. There's always room for more."
"You already said that. Hey, were you going to let me come no matter what?" She asked, drawing her hand back.
"I don't know, Lily." He sighed, avoiding her eyes.
"Wow. What is going on with you an-" Lily had a shocked look on her face, and Liam looked everywhere but her.
"Do you like her? Octavia, I mean." Liam looked stunned but the look in his eyes was unmistakable. I felt the bracelet drop from my hand, their words fading away as it fell to the floor. I heard "I d-" before the bracelet clamored to the ground. I couldn't hear them anymore, but I definitely knew that they had stopped talking. I went to stand in their line of view and quickly picked up the bracelet. "Hey... you two." I said.
"Hey. We just finished our conversation. I got all the answers I needed, and I will be there, Liam. I wouldn't miss a wedding for the world." Lily said to Liam and I, with fake enthusiasm. Her face was straight. Liam looked at her as though to say, 'seriously?' Lily started to walk to the door that lead to the stairs. "Where are you going?" I asked as she threw open the door. "I have to go home early because I have a BTS concert to go to at 8:30." She came over to me and dropped the necklace in my outstretched hand. "What? BTS is here in America?" I asked, in utter shock. "Yes. Now, I have to go. See you two tomorrow." And without another word, she showed herself out. I turned to Liam and he was as red as a tomato. "I should leave too." I was about to stop him, but he didn't seem to want to talk. I heard the door downstairs close, and all that was left was me, the bracelet and my thoughts. From the time my friends left, to the next morning, all I could think about was all the problems I was facing. Not a happy thought all night.
