My eyes fluttered open. I glanced around the room, still letting the thought of being away from home marinate. Today felt especially intense and upon sitting up, I felt pressure crushing my skull; a migraine. I get sick away from home, though there wasn't anything comforting about my meek 2 bedroom house that I had to split the rent on. I let my hand clutch at the pain, as if digging my nails in to it would relieve it. I continued through my morning routine, which was getting out of bed, staring at the void, brushing my teeth, and taking a shower.
I stepped out of the shower, the curtain letting out a plume of smoke that thinned in to cold air. I looked at myself in the mirror after wiping away condensation, I looked tired. A soft knock on the door broke me out of my trance, my head whipping toward the sound. "Yea?" I said, still looking at my reflection from the corner of my eyes. "You almost finished?" Aki. I started to gather myself and started fumbling around for my clothes "Ye- almost there, ah shit" my clothes were nowhere to be found, presumably sitting on my bed. "Aki" I asked, facing the door. "yes?" "Can you grab my clothes from the bed?". He paused and I heard shuffling in the other side. "Yea I got them" I opened the door, leaving smallest opening possible. I could see his frame from the small slit, facing the other way, holding my clothes out for me behind him. His other hand blocked his peripheral vision for extra caution.
I chuckled at his determination to keep my privacy air tight and dressed. After getting out of the bathroom, instead of using the bathroom himself, Aki escorted me to the cafeteria for breakfast. Had he been waiting for me just to take me to breakfast.
Upon sitting down table at an empty table with Aki, he immediately pulled another the bottle out of his jacket. "I saw you drank yesterday's bottle" he said proudly, he slid the blood soda towards me. I cautiously took the bottle in my hands "Yea, it's really good!" I thought back to how I'd dumped it down the drain "but really, you don't have to go to the trouble of getting it for me.". He raised an eyebrow and smiled,
"Are you kidding me? I like doing stuff for you"
He said the last part shyly and looked down it hands. I pretended not to notice and glanced down at the bottle. "You're not gonna drink it?"
Aki asked, he looked disappointed. "No, no"
I pushes the bottle away, "I'll drink it later!" He pushed it back towards me with his finger.
"But it won't be as good later! C'mon!" His eyes stared in to mine, beckoning me to drink. I smiled, defeated. "Bottoms up" I murmured and tipped the soda into my throat. I downed s third of the bottle before I couldn't continue. It was different, there was more of the biter iron taste, it made me feel sick. I glanced at the content of the bottle and noticed that the drink was thicker and was filled with the wispy red tendrils, the pink liquid receded towards the bottom edges. I gagged a bit "Aki, what is this?"
He watched me intently, his expression blank and unreadable. "Do you feel anything?" He asked while gnawing at his fingernail. I put the bottle down, and cautiously looked at him.
"What?" I squeaked. I felt my stomach drop, I wasn't quite sure what was happening but I knew I didn't want to be around Aki. I stood up and pushed in my chair. I had to stiffen my back or I'd inevitably keel over and vomit. Surprisingly, Aki didn't protest my leave.
I spent the next hour alone on my bed, dry heaving from puking. I heard the door creak open behind but I didn't bother turning around, my stomach was tender and moving would only bring me pain. I heard Aki's voice,
"You know I'd never intentionally hurt you""Right?"
