Chapter 1

Present day

Since I was 16 I've been in the hospital 3 days a week for chemo. I have Ovarian cancer that is stubborn as fuck and goes away but comes right back. My family can't afford anything so I'm working 3 jobs so I can pay for treatment.

I'm 19 now.

All this sucks ass.

Doctors have told me

"Soon."

"You'll be out of here in no time."

"Next week."

All of that turned into another year.

They haven't said anything else to me.

They seem to have given up on me.

My parents and brother too.

"Alayna!!!" My little sister Jacklyn yells running into my hospital room.

"Jackie!!" I open my arms and she jumps up to hug me. My older brother waves and waits outside the door. Hmm..thats weird.

"What's new?" I ask knowing its going to be about Avenged Sevenfold.

That girl is obsessed.

"They just released their new album "Waking the Fallen"!!!!" She squeals.

"That's great!!! Have mom and dad bought it yet?" I ask.

"They told me no." Her face drops.

"I'm sorry Jackie. I promise you that when I'm out of here, I will buy you everything that's Avenged Sevenfold. Maybe even the actual band." I ruffle her hair. We both laugh.

"Don't worry about it. I just want you okay aga....." she's cut off by my doctor.

*knock knock*

"Come in." I yell.

"Hey Jackie." My doctor says. "I need to talk to your sister."

I smile "Go on Jackie. Have Michael take you home." She waves and leaves.

"What's up Doctor Paul."

"I need to have a serious conversation. I've already talked to everyone but you and Jackie."

My heart drops. I hope its not what I think.

"Jackie, we have tried everything. But cause we can't do the surgery we have no other option but to stop treatment."

"How long?" I ask.

"A year if you're lucky. I'm sorry sweetie." He hugs me.

I'm not going to cry.

Stay strong for Jacklyn.

"Well I guess I'll see you in two years. I'm not dyin Doc. See ya." I grab my stuff and go to my brother and Jacklyn.

"Lets go get Ice Cream. On me." I smile.

"Don't you need to save your money?" Jackie asks.

"Yea, I'm saving up for a special something for you." I laugh.

Her face lights up. I look at Michael and he gives me sad eyes. I quickly look away as tears start to gather.

I can grow my hair out now.

"I don't think I should've bought her I Cream." I tell my brother as I watch Jackie run around the park like a wild child.

"At least she is going to get her energy out." He laughs. "I can't imagine life without you sis." I lowers his head.

"Don't stress about it. I'm going to be okay." He pat his back. "Let's go Jackie!!" I yell.

We all walk to the car and head home.

When we get to the door I whisper to my brother.

"Make it as normal as it can be for Jackie. Get mom and dad to a different room if their crying." He rushes in and Jackie goes to follow her.

"Hey Jack."

She turns around.

"What if I can get you into an Avenged concert?" I laugh.

"That would be amazing!! I love you Alayna!!" She hugs me and I look to the door to see my brother waving us in.

"Go take a shower and get to bed. You have school tomorrow." I kiss her goodnight and she heads upstairs.

I go to my mom and dads room.

"Hey guys." I smile.

"Oh sweetie." My mom says breaking down.

"Hey, it's okay mom. I will be okay. But we will keep this normal for Jackie. She can't know anything." I say consoling my mom.

My dad and brother can't look at me.

"Well goodnight guys." I leave and head to my room.

Good thing about my room is I have my own bathroom.

I take my shower and get ready for bed.

"I'm dying." I say as I look into a mirror.

Fuck.

I lay in bed and cry.

I'm scared.

You know what?

It's not about how long I have, it's about how I live it.

I will make the best of it.

I will make sure Jackie doesn't know a thing.
