Chapter 2: That Was A Disaster

Me and Sherri have been playing for a while, barbies if you must know. Not my first choice but anything to make her happy. Anything to make her a little bit less lonely. I put the Barbie down lightly as i see my sister now lying limp on the bed with her head on the pillow asleep. Thank god i didn't know how much longer i could take this torture. I gently pull the barbies from her hands and softly pull the covers up over her sleeping body. I quietly flick the small bedside lamp off and take a step back to look back over at her. “Goodnight Sher” i whisper as i quickly kiss her forehead. I know not exactly manly but I could care less cause shes my little sister. I quietly step out of the room and close the door until it softly clicks. I walk down the hall and into my room and plop myself down on my bed. I am gonna get a phone call tonight. I think back over the last couple of days and sigh, I think so. She tries to never go more than three days without calling or visiting. Shes only ever missed that limit once. Oh god that was a disaster, it really was back near the beginning after da- i mean “He Left”. We weren't used to her being gone and it ended badly.

/////Flashback/////

Where the hell is she. She was supposed to be home three hours ago. I'm pacing around our small downtown flat that has only two bedrooms one for mum and the other one for me and Sherri. I swipe my hair out of my eyes as i pace back and forth as I try to tune out the loud cries of my sister I can’t get her to stop i tried everything. I gave her food, i gave her milk, I even sang to her. Nothing, Notta, Nope not a darn thing. Its not me she want, she wants her mom. The one who was supposed to be home right now. I sit rigidly on one of the wooden kitchen stools. My shoulders are tense as i drop my head into my hands breaking my tough guy facade as the tears fall down my face. I hear the front door swing open and I look up abruptly, my eyes puffy and my cheeks stained red from the tears. “Where the hell have you been” I scream at her as i stand up with my hands in tight fists at my side. “I was just working” she says like it explains everything. She looks over at me absentmindedly before she starts to walk over to my and my sisters room. “Just working you were supposed to be here three hours ago” i shout after her as i run up behind her and grab at her arm turning her to look at me. “I told you i was working we need the money Jacob” she says with a pointed glare. “Well we need a mom to you know, its not all about money” i scream at her. She just waves her hand dismissively before going into my and my sisters room. That was the last time i brought it up to her because I knew my words were falling on deaf ears.

/////End Of Flashback/////

Damn right i never brought it up again. That night proved it. She doesn’t care, or she cares too much. Whats the difference I couldn’t tell you they both look the same to me. I crawl up my bed and lie my head down on one of the many pillows. Hopefully she will call if only to put me at ease. If not I don’t know if I will be able to sleep. I hear the ring of the phone come from the other room and i jump up immediately. I run out of my room and down the hall and answer the phone. “Hello” i say. “Jacob what have i told you about answering the phone that way.” my mother reprimands. “I know mother, im sorry mother” i say. “Thats another thing call me Beth like i told you” she says. “Okay Beth” I say. “Now back to why I called you” she says with a pause. “Im going on a trip to the Caribbean” she says with a laugh. “Thats great are we all going” i ask. “No just me i already got my things i just wanted to tell you goodbye and that i'll be back in a week” she says quickly before hanging up. What the hell. Who does that, and to their own kid.
