Warning: NOT EDITED
The idea for this book came years ago when I was in Middle School.
I've caught myself repeating the phrase 'all guys are the same' and 'no guy can be trusted.' But as I reflect on my experiences, I'm beginning to wonder if that's a fair generalization...
"Hello, I'm Angel Smith, an 18-year-old navigating the challenges of young adulthood. Recently, I started attending school about 30 minutes away from home, which has brought new experiences my way. One significant development was meeting the son of my dad's colleague, who turned my world upside down. Initially, I was unsure how to handle this new relationship, especially when I found myself entangled in a complicated love triangle. The disagreements were tough, but we managed to work through them together. This is where my story begins..."
As I stroll through the park, the joyful laughter of children and parents transports me back to my carefree childhood. The vibrant scene before me is a picturesque reminder of happy memories. Gazing at the sunset, I'm nostalgic for the simple moments I shared with my father, watching the sky turn pink and orange together. I recall the fond times we spent in comfortable silence, appreciating nature's beauty.
I remember the day I thanked my dad as I got out of the car, feeling grateful for the moments we shared. I love the sensation of the wind rustling through my hair - it's a universal pleasure that never gets old! My dad always replied, 'I'll pick you up around 5 pm,' and drove away, leaving me to bask in the serenity of the moment.'
As I sat on a bench, lost in thought, my friend Olivia approached me with a warm smile. It was a lovely surprise, and I was happy to share the peaceful atmosphere with her.
"Long time no see!" I exclaimed as I hugged my friend tightly. "It's been ages since we last caught up – it feels like forever!"
We had parted ways after graduation, which was a bittersweet moment for both of us. "I'm so sorry I lost touch," she said, explaining the gap in our communication. "I lost my phone and all my contacts were gone." I reassured her it was okay, and we expressed our delight at reuniting.
As we pulled back from our hug, she asked, "So, what have you been up to?" I shared my news, "I got a scholarship and I've been in school." Her face lit up with pride, "That's amazing! You've always been the nerd," she teased with a smile. I playfully denied it, "That's a lie!" While I did have my book-smart moments, I didn't fit the stereotypical nerd mold. "Oh really?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. I laughed and conceded, "Well, maybe a little!"
As the sun began to set, my friend and I wrapped up our conversation, exchanging numbers before parting ways. I waited for my dad to pick me up, but when he didn't show up by 5:30, I opted for an Uber instead. On my way home, I called him to ask what had happened, but he simply said he couldn't make it.
When I arrived home, my mom questioned me about my whereabouts, her tone laced with concern. "Where have you been?" she asked, her eyes narrowing. I hesitated, feeling a twinge of guilt, "I went to the park." She pressed on, "Are you lying?" I felt a surge of defensiveness, "So, mom, you don't trust me anymore?" I replied, my voice trembling.
I explained that Dad had permitted me to go and had even dropped me off, but I didn't wait for her to respond. Instead, I retreated to my room, locking the door behind me. As I tried to process the tension, my phone buzzed with a text from Amy. I couldn't help but wonder, what does she want from me? I'm not exactly a relationship expert...
I felt stunned and disbelieving when I realized what Michael had done. Our relationship has been through its ups and downs, but this betrayal cut deep. I couldn't help but wonder if I had misjudged him entirely. With a mix of emotions swirling inside me, I decided to reach out to Michael and address this issue head-on. I typed out a text, my fingers hesitating for a moment before hitting send. I needed closure, and I needed it now
Just as I was typing away on my 5-page essay, my dad walked into my room, key in hand. He noticed my tears and chose not to disturb me, instead letting me focus on my work. I quickly composed myself, putting on a mask of calmness. "Hey Dad, welcome home," I said, attempting to sound nonchalant.
He asked about my visit to the park, and I downplayed it, not wanting to reveal my emotional state. He seemed to buy it and asked about my essay. I filled him in, trying to sound enthusiastic. But when he called me "missy," I cringed inwardly. I hated that nickname.
As we chatted, he mentioned dinner guests – his colleague from work and his son. My heart sank. I wasn't in the mood for small talk, especially not with a stranger. But I put on a fake smile and agreed to dress nicely for dinner.
After finishing my essay, I quickly got ready and made my way downstairs. The dining room was filled with delicious food, courtesy of my amazing mom. Just as we sat down, the doorbell rang. My dad excitedly announced the arrival of his friend Daniel and his son Mason.
As they entered, our eyes met, and Mason smiled. I felt a flutter in my chest. My dad introduced us, and I tried to play it cool. But as we sat down to eat, I realized Mason had taken the seat right across from me. This dinner was going to be a long one...
