Chapter 1

The last thing I remember was blood. With my vision becoming hazy and surroundings revolving, I heaved a deep breath as I realized the blood flowing through my veins was being drained out.

Finally!

My body went completely limp from pain. Unable to move, unable to breathe, the feeling of dread engulfed me little by little as darkness shadowed my line of sight. The image of severed wrists, the slight metallic taste in my mouth, my reflection in the mirror repeated themselves in a loop at the back of my mind.

Dying is not a fun sport, I thought to myself. The blood seeped through the white sheets coloring everything in red.

While the rest of the world was deep asleep, I was sitting on my bed, hands spread out. How long does this take anyway, I mused while waiting for my final breath. Every minute seemed like an hour. Images of newspaper headlines, my grandmother's face, the state of my step siblings flashed through my mind as I imagined the future without me. I couldn't help but grin. None of them saw this coming.

When the sky cracks the next day for the sun to shine through, everything will be over. All this will be over. I wore my best fake smile and closed my eyes. I wanted the world to see me smiling when my body gets discovered.

As I waited in my slumber for everything to disappear, the scent of grass filled my nostrils. The cool breeze from outside felt nice on the skin. There was a familiar touch on my forehead which was soothing my nerves.

My grandmother used to say, in death you are closest to your loved ones. I felt strangely warm as I imagined myself in my mother's lap sleeping. No worries, no responsibilities, just peace. God took her away way before her time but maybe decided to give her back in my final moments.

"Wake up," a gentle voice echoed in my mind.

Is that you Ma?

"Please wake up. You're my last hope, I beg you. Don't leave me," the voice said. Her voice was strained which made my heart tighten. Drops of water fell on the surface of my lips and nose.

"Please!" I felt her soft hands on my wrist, "Come back to me." Without warning, my body moved on its own. I wrapped my fingers around her hand, pressing lightly.

"I am here," my voice barely came out in a whisper.

There was no fragment of energy left in my body yet I pried my eyes open. Instantly my eyes closed on their own. They burned from the sensation of bright light. "Ah!" I screamed as I squinted against the brightness.

"Oh God, you are alive," the voice sighed with relief.

With one hand still covering half of my face, my eyes fell on the source of the voice. As soon as our eyes meet, my mind, body, everything went on full pause. Long hair, black as raven complemented with pale white skin. Her sparkling doe eyes stared right back as I lied there motionless.

"Who are you?" I finally breathed out.

Hey guys! I am Sky and this is my first time writing something like this.

A little author's note :

This will be a short story which I hope I will finish.

All the characters and scenes used in this story are completely fictional.

My writing style still has lots of room to improve. So I might re-read the story and make changes now and then. Fear not, I will not change the plot or story line.
