Like a child trying to solve a complex equation, I stared at my stranger in arms trying to read her face. As my eyes searched her features for any clue, her hold on my arm tightened.
"Don't fucking touch me," I spat, yanking my arm out of the stranger's hold. Mistaking her for my mother was an error on my part but trying to hug me without warning was hers. She was beautiful, no doubt. Hell! She was even more slender and pretty than your average vogue and tiffany models. However that didn't mean I would go around wrapping myself around her.
She had waist length hair bound in big braids at the bottom where the tips were tied to white stones. There were unknown letters etched on each stone.
Her eyes which radiated warmth minutes ago turned solid ice the minute I asked for her identity. As if betrayed by her ally, she gave me a pained look. The more she stared, the more I couldn't figure out what was happening.
My chest felt heavy, my throat was dry. Water! I need water. I flailed my arms around in order to get some air, pushing her away in the process. Maybe I was a little too hard as she got thrusted back quite a distance. She was too close for my comfort and the heavy kimono draped across her body wasn't helping.
The temperature felt crazy. Almost as if on fire, my body screamed for some relief. I looked at my stranger in question again. The expression of shock mixed with sadness was evident on her face. Her inexplicable appearance made no sense to me.
As my focus shifted to the scenery behind her, it was my turn to mirror her features. Where are we? I gulped a few times as my mind contemplated whether to believe my sight or not. There was nothing but greenery everywhere, stretching over miles. Not a single soul could be seen in the distance. As my train of thoughts ran wild, my instincts told me to make a run for it.
"Who the fuck are you?" I asked, to which her eyes widened again. "Who are you? What have you done to me?" I repeated as my brain tried to process what was happening. If this was any other day, I would have shrugged this off as a mere dream or a hallucination but the warmth that her skin radiated felt too real.
In return to my outburst which probably made me look mental by now, all I got was silence. Her eyes were casted downward, not even meeting mine. I wanted to shake her and ask numerous questions but for some reason I felt I should keep my distance.
Before I could ask again, I was cut off by a man, walking quickly towards us. I got up and backed off a few steps, not liking the sudden appearance of another person now. However, instead of being alarmed or anything, the man gave me a casual smile and turned to the girl on the ground.
"Hey Selina, what's taking so long?" he asked, "We don't have all day you know, we need to start moving." He pointed to some horses behind him. There were five of them along with two men who seemed to be looking in our direction.
The so-called Selina didn't utter a word as usual. I was starting to think she was mute when three syllables barely left her lips. "She is gone," her lower lips quivered.
Sensing her distressed, the man knelt down beside her. A leather scabbard poked out from underneath his blue robes. "Who is gone?" he looked at her, worry written all over his face. Selina pointed towards me as puddles of water started to drip from her eyes.
An expression of shock flashed through the man's face as he seemed to realize something which I clearly didn't. Just like Selina, he wore the same face as if I had betrayed them in some manner.
The whole ordeal seemed surreal to me. As both of them whispered and stared at each other and the man kept nodding, my eyes darted everywhere for an opportunity to escape.
The horses were a few feet away. Even if I made a dash for it, I would have to go round the two of them. As if these two were not enough, there were also those men who looked like guards with well built bodies. Each of them had a sword on them. Would I even be able to fight my way through these many people? The thought lingered on my mind as I inched backwards slowly.
As I desperately tried to look for a way, two strong hands gripped my sides. Even before I could grasp what was happening, the tall man who was earlier all smiles now had a grave expression on his face. With his murderous gaze on me, my meager survival instincts kicked in.
I started to kick and twist my body in all angles possible. But all my desperate attempts rendered useless as he picked me up in one swift motion.
"What should we do with her?" the man asked looking at Selina.
"Take her," she said in a voice so cold that it sent chills down my spine.
