"Welcome back to Mystic Falls, Gem." Gemma's mother says excitedly as the town sign passes by. Gemma rolls her eyes as she watches the trees and streets go past in a blur.

It's been a year since her father was died. After his murder Gemma and her mother moved to Vancouver to get away from Mystic Falls. Until a new job opportunity arose and Gemma's mother didn't hesitate to pack up and move back.

"We're here Gemma!" Her mom cheers, pulling up into the driveway of a massive, modern, colonial house. Gemma looks out the window and takes in the familiar surroundings.

"Gem, you going to help me get the boxes?" Her mother hollers from outside the car. Gemma turns back and notices her mother retrieving cardboard boxes from the trunk. She shakes out her thoughts and steps out of the vehicle.

"I'm coming." She mumbles.

"There, everything is perfect." Gemma's mother says joyfully at her perfectly decorated living room.

"Do you need anymore help?" Gemma questions, getting bored of decorating.

"No, not for a while." Her mother replies, fixing a lamp shade.

Gemma nods, "Well I'm going to the Mystic Grill. Call if you need me." She mentions, grabbing her jacket and purse.

•••••

The chimes above the door ring as Gemma steps into Mystic Grill. She smiles a small smile, noticing nothing changed except for the people. She saunters over to the bar and places her order. As she pulls out a stool, a blonde haired girl comes and grabs a seat beside her.

"Gemma Whitesides. I haven't seen you in a long time." She states shaking her head, jokingly. Gemma turns to face the voice with a huge smile on her face.

"Rebekah." She mumbles, pulling the Original sister into a hug. The two were best friends, almost like sisters, until her brothers ruined everything in her life. But the one thing that they didn't touch was the two girls' friendship.

"Why didn't you tell me you were coming back?" Rebekah questions.

"I actually didn't know I was coming back." Gemma responds.

"Oh," Rebekah mutters, "well you're going to need to hear all the gossip!"

•••••

Rebekah invites Gemma back to her house. Gemma was very hesitant at first, but eventually gave in and agreed.

"Wait here, I'll get some drinks." Rebekah says, plopping her friend onto her couch before exiting.

Gemma sits and awkwardly looks around the room. Everything was the same except for a few new beautiful paintings on the walls. Her eyes land on one of a familiar looking forest and she stands up to admire it closely.

"You like it?" A familiar voice asks her. "You know I painted it. Quite the artist as I do say so myself." He mentions. Gemma can feel her fists clench, and she attempts not to make eye contact.

She peels her eyes off the painting and places them on a unique vase on the table. It wasn't that interesting, but she just didn't want to face the monster named Niklaus Mikaelson.

"Grudges shouldn't be held this long." He declares peering over her shoulder.

"Okay I got red wine, and some - Nik, what are you doing here?" Rebekah demands, mid sentence.

"I live here sister." He says, adjusting himself comfortably on the couch.

Rebekah grabs Gemma's arm and drags her up to her room and slams the door shut.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know he would be here." She says apologetically.

"It's okay," Gemma says, sitting on the bed as Rebekah hands her a glass of red wine.

"Now where were we?" Gemma asks, thinking of what they finished talking about previously at Mystic Grill.

Just when they finally have the chance to talk, Elijah bursts through the door.

"Rebekah I need to talk to you. Oh hello, Gemma." He says.

"Can't it wait, Elijah?" Rebekah asks, slightly annoyed.

"Hi, Elijah." I respond.

They bicker back and forth for a while, and yet Gemma still didn't know what Rebekah had to go talk to with Elijah about.

"Just go Rebekah." I finally say after being done with their feuding.

"Fine." She mumbles.

Elijah brings Rebekah into another room.

"Alright what was it you wanted to talk about." Rebekah asks, folding her arms.

"It's a curse." He mumbles.

Elijah was recently in New Orleans and just got back yesterday. Rumour spread around town saying that a curse was on its way. He just don't know what curse. But was determined to get answers.

"What curse?" Rebekah questions.

"I don't know." Elijah responds, earning a scoff from his sister before she leaves back to her room.

•••••

Elijah trudges into the living room where Klaus is sitting, having a drink and admiring his artwork.

"Did you meet Gemma?" Klaus asks, his eyes now fixed on me.

"Yes I did." Elijah responds.

Niklaus looks at him with an annoying grin. "Did she talk to you? Because she seems to be very friendly with Rebekah."

"Yes she did in fact." Elijah retorts, heading into the corridor leading to the front door with Niklaus following.

Before he can open the door it bursts open.

"Well, well." Klaus mutters.
