chapter 2 - Zoya

Zoya is from a middle class muslim family,  she is a part time nursery school teacher and a first year BA student. She loves kids and that’s why she loves to teach and play with them. Zoya belongs to an extremely strict and reserved family. Her father thinks that having a female child is a burden he wasn’t ready for. Zoya never liked her father ever since she was child, as he was extremely ruthless towards her. Her dream is to become a literature teacher. That’s where the disturbance begins between her dad and her. Zoya is forbidden of doing any kind of job only because of her father. Her mother is helpless, she got married at age of 16, she couldn’t complete her education, but she loves her daughter. She said, "Tum bali apne abbu ki saggi na ho, par tum meri jaan ho aur mein tumhe woh saari khushiyan dena chaati hu , jo mujhe nahi mili. Par ek na ek din tumhe apne sapne chodhne padenge aur apna khud ka ashiyana kisi aur ke sath banana padega , uske sath, jo abbu tumhare liye chunke laayenge ." ( even if you are not owned by your father but you are my life and i wanna give you all happiness, that I didn't get in my life. But one day you have to leave all your dreams and create your own world with someone else , who will be selected by your father for you) . Whenever zoya heard her mother say this, she gives a pleasant smile to her, as she knows that no matter what she will have to do whatever her father wants her to do, otherwise she’s as good as dead. Zoya's father takes care of his small slaughter house and he’s usually there all day long. Zoya is a believer of Allah and she knows that Allah will come for her one day and save her from this mess.

But one day, 

Zoya left from her workplace and head towards her college to attend the upcoming lecture. She took a taxi from colaba to head towards kala ghoda, where her college was. While travelling towards college , her ride got stuck in traffic. While zoya stuck in traffic, she noticed ronny and his friend akhbar staring at her from window, they were next to her vehicle she was traveling in.  Akhbar was riding his classic yamaha motorbike and busy in adjusting his hair and ronnie was just starting at her. Zoya knows ronnie and akhbar since 10 years. Ronnie and akhbar are criminals, they have stolen chains, assassin many politicians and raped many girls since past 10 years, many of them had logged complaint against them,  but no action was taken against them, as they have political support from MLA's of their colony and those who had or have complaints againt them, they are no longer living in this world. Ronnie and akhbar live in same colony, where zoya lives. Ronnie has a dirty and lusty eye on zoya since past one year and she has been ignoring this behaviour of him and escaping from his every body passing or molestation cases as such. So back to the scene! , after she caught them staring, she immediately close up her taxi windows and brings down her face cover , so he can't see her face. Ronnie , after seeing this strategy from her, he says to akhbar - "miyan,lagta hai aaj seene se aag niklegi. "(brother, i think today, all of my lust will fall off) and gets off from bike and go towards her hired taxi and opens the front door and sits and closes the door rapidly. After this taxi driver ask him " aree kaun ho bhai?, pehle se hi passenger betha hai, utro abhi ka abhi utro!"(who the hell are you? , already a passenger is riding, get off right away!) . After this, he suddenly removes a gun from his vest and points that gun towards taxi driver's forehead.  At the same time the signal marked from red to green and everyone started honking towards her taxi to move ahead and clear the traffic that her hired vehicle was creating.  Ronnie looked behind where she sat, she was looking down. Ronnie ask her "kya madam, kya haal chaal, bolo apne pyaare taxi driver ko ki leke chale madai island, nahi to na yeh taxi driver jeeyega, na hi tu, na hi tera khaandan"(whatsup madam?, how are you?, please tell your lovely taxi driver to take towards madai island, otheriwise he will die, so you and so your family) . Zoya hassitates and says to driver " aap chalo jidhar yeh keh rahe hai"(just go, wherever he says) . During the ride , ronnie orders zoya, " parda kholo! " (show me your face) , she replies "nahi kholungi"( i wont).  He again points out his gun towards taxi driver and ask "ab? "(now?) . And after seeing that situation, She shows her face, her eyes were deep red and full of tears . she ask in loud voice "dekh liya?  , Ab toh khuda ke vaaste chodh do!" ( you see it? , now for god sake, please leave me and taxi driver!)
Ronnie replies"madam, abhi tak pakda hi kidar hai aapko, ab toh pakadna baaki hai" (madam, you are remain to been caught). Zoya started sweating, wondering what ronnie will do to her. As soon as they reached madai island, ronnie tells the taxi driver to take towards left dead end.. The dead end had nothing but walls on left, right and center..he stops the car at the dead end and gets off from the taxi. He opens the left door where zoya was sitting...  Zoya rushed towards right side and started crying and begging ronnie to leave her. But ronnie grabs her hair and gets her out from the taxi and throws her at the road.. He closed the door of taxi and says " chal kalti hoja yaha se, nahi toh duniya se kalti karne me zyaada time nahi lagega meko" ( get out from here, otherwise, i dont take time to take away life). Taxi driver panics and takes his vehicle in full speed in reverse gear. Zoya cries for help but nobody heard her voice. The place was so shady and empty. Ronnie says to her " 2 saal, samajti ho?, aaj bhook mitaake rahunga" (2 years, do you understand?, today ill vanish my all lust over you). Zoya shouted and cried,but no one came to rescue her from this monster. After sometime he stopped, hooked his pant up and said to her "khuda aafiz" (goodbye) and went away . Zoya kept crying, as he forcefully intimated with her. After some time, she managed to get up. She walked slowly slowly towards her home, crying and shivering and covering her body with both hands crossed . She reached home by 9pm, as soon as she saw her mother , she ran towards her and hugged her tightly and started crying. Her mother  got worried about her sudden reaction  and asked her continuously,  "zoya, kya hua?, batao zoya kya hua? "(zoya what happened?,tell me) . She didn't utter a single word at that time. When her mother said "tumhe meri kasam, batao kya hua?"(for my sake, tell me what happened?). She shouted with heavy voice saying "uss jalad ne meri massomiyat cheenli ammi"(That monster snatched my innocence).  After hearing this her mother started crying and started saying continously "nahi beta, aisa nahi ho sakta"(no child, this is not possible). Soon zoya said everything about what happened with her , and  then her mother hugged her saying " allah usse kabhi maaf nahi karega" (god will never forgive him). Soon, Zoya ask her "ammi, abbu kya kahenge?"( mom, what will dad say? ). Same at that moment, her dad comes to the door. His face was full of tears and says to her "beta mujhe sab pata chal gaya hai!"( child, i know everything that has happened with you!).
