Reason for the Change

I woke up the next morning to the sun shining through the very big window. I began to look through the 7 boxes. About 4 of them had clothes in them. The other 3 had my makeup, phone and laptop charger. Soap, toliet paper. A bowl, plate, spoon, fork, knife, a pot, and some quick easy make food.

I shook my head. I looked around the room. I wish I could go to the office. But the doctor told me I needed the rest of the week off.

I decided to get ready and pack all of my things back in the boxes. I got my laptop and went to Wayfair.com, I wanted and needed all new furniture. I began by looking at sets, then individual pieces.

I spent round 4 hours on Wayfair getting everything I needed for this house. I purchased everything and got express delivery. But the furniture won't get here until Friday or Saturday. Not what I wanted. Until then I started to move boxes to respected rooms. My clothes went to the master room. After I finished that, I went and moved around the house. Exploring. There are 3.5 bathrooms, and 5 rooms counting the master. The floors are rich, and worn.

I got bored. I wanted to do something. But I didn't know what. So I called my grandma.

"Jessica. I came to see you, but your not home. Why is there a for sale sgin infront?"

My hand slapped my forehead. I was in the hospital yesterday. Of course she would visit.

"Well, I decided I needed a change. So I'm selling my condo. Do you wanna meet for lunch?"

I cringed at the look I'm sure my grandmother was making.

"Alright. Ill meet you at our usual cafe."

I hung up and grabbed my purse and keys. I got in my car and drove. I put my sunglasses on. The L.A. sun is really beating down today.

When I got to the Cafe my grandmother was already there. I almost ran in.

"I'm glad you didn't order yet. Let's get a drink to go. I wanna go shopping."

I gave her a big grin and hopped to the counter.

"Hello, I'd like 2 sweetened strawberry teas please."

"Alright, that'll be $7.45. And I'll have them ready for you right away."

I handed her a $10. And she got my drinks ready.

"Keep the change."

I gave her a smile and walked back to my grandma, I looped my arm with hers and we left the store.

"You seem really happy today Jessica. Did something happen?"

My grandmother raised her eyebrows and gave me a questioning stare. I shrugged my shoulder and we continued to walk. We window shopped for awhile.

"Grandma. I want a dog."

Her head shot to mine, her eyes wide. They slowly relieved of stress and began to smile. She shook her head.

"I also want a new car."

Now that made her stop. She stopped and turned to me.

"Jessie. Sweetheart. Are you really takeing your health into account now?"

I nodded my head. We began to walk arm and arm again.

"After the hospital. I realised how bad my living was. I was living alone, in a very dangerous neighborhood, and my car isn't the safest. I realise you've been telling me that for years. But this next stage of my life. I realize my mistakes. So I moved into a safer neighborhood, with parks and ponds, young families all around. I want a safer car, not so low to the ground, and I want a dog so I don't live alone."

I looked up at the sky while speaking this truth. I think I've known this for awhile, but I didn't have that reality check until yesterday.

"Why not have Liam move in with you. You two have been friends since your toddler years. Your even business partners."

I gently pushed her with my shoulder.

"Grandma."

I complained. She always brought it back to Liam. She loved him half to death. Called him her son.

"I'm just saying. He's a trustworthy man, who has a good job, a gentleman, he's quite handy. I've had him fix somethings at my house."

I looked at her my eyes widening.

"Why? You know I'll call someone."

She patted me on the shoulder.

"He comes over to have a chat once in awhile. Ask how things are. I tell him how lonely I am without you living there anymore. We have a few great laughs. It a enjoyable."

I smiled sweetly to my grandmother, we made our way back to my car. My grandmother wanted to go car shopping with me. Though there wouldn't be much shopping. I know what I wanted.

Once we got to the car dealership we hopped out. Or tried to hop. We walked into the white blinding. Windows covered every wall. Cars on display. And I saw the car I wanted.

"I want that one."

I pointed to the silver SUV in the corner. My grandmother raised her eyebrows.

"You've done your homework that's a 2018 model. One of the safest ones there is."

I nodded. A sales clerk, a nice looking gentleman greeted us.

"Hello ladies. How may I help you?"

His eyes literly lighting up as he sees he's got a catch.

"I want the silver SUV over there."

I pointed once again at the car in the corner. He followed my finger and his smile split to a almost scary grin.

"Ahh, I see. And would you be doing a trade in?"

I nodded my head.

"May I see your vehicle?"

We began to walk back outside twords my car. I showed him, and his draw dropped. I took his hand and placed my keys in it. I leaned in and whispered.

"I'd like my car now."

That's snapped him out of his day dream. A slow blush crossed over his face.

"R-right. Follow me please."

We followed him and began the paper work. By 3 in the afternoon I had a new car and was driving it out of the parking lot.

"I'm proud of you Jessie."

My grandmother said. She was almost jumping for joy at the fact I was living a safer life. That's all she's ever wanted for me. Grwoing up she knows what I went through. How I was never enough to impress my mother. So I tried my hardest, risking my health everyday to impress her. But she never was. Now after what's happening to me. To my body. I now know that was stupid thinking. I'm ganna live the life my grandmother wanted me to live.
