"I’m not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We’ll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just lettin’ you know that, you’re not alone
Holla if you feel like you’ve been down the same road."

Emalin's POV
Thump. Thump. Thump. The sound of my brother's loud bass music woke me up, pounding the ground.
"What a great way to start the first day of school," I said to myself, sitting up in bed. My sky blue sheets were scrunched under my body, as usual, and my slender frame was diagonal across the whole bed. It was only 6 a.m., but I knew that my brother had been up and in our shared bathroom for a little while already, fixing his hair. Vain but stunning, Ehligen was one of the most popular boys in the 8th grade, and I doubted starting high school was going to change that. He was the opposite of me- loud, tall, strong, slightly narcissistic, and, well, cool! School always brought new difficulties for me, since I everyone thought of me as the "quiet girl".
Shy little me, I thought with a sigh, starting my last year of high school, yet no one really knows who I am.
I stood up, feeling the soft carpet reach up and snuggle into my toes. My bedroom was fairly big, roomy enough for a full sized bed, a small vanity, a two-person couch, and my school desk. I had wallpapered the walls when I had first moved here at age 14 with a light green, my favorite color. I slowly walked to the bathroom, not suprised that Ehli was still taking his time.
Banging on the door, I yelled, "Ehli, hurry up! Other people need to shower as well!"
I should probably explain something to you; I'm not quite as shy as everyone as school thinks I am. At home, I feel like I can be myself, so I am loud. It takes me a long time to open up to new people, and since I was quiet when I first moved here and barely anyone attempted to talk with me, I was still extremely shy in front of them. The friends that I have are always suprised when they come over, since although I talk to them in class, at home I yell and act like.. Well, me!
After what feels like an eternity of shouting, Ehli finally saunters out, leaving a heavy trail of cologne and the smell of hair gel behind him.
Giving me a hug and a big grin, he says, "Good morning, Ema-bug!"
I reply with a smile, "Shut it, Ehli-phant!"
Even through all the teasing and fighting, my brother and I are very close, ever since our mother died. Since I'm short, well, to him, only 5'3, he calls me a little bug, or "Ema-bug". In return, I tease his massive (he's 5'8 already!) height by calling him "Ehli-phant". Hey, it worked when I was 8, and it stuck!
Laughing, I shove into the bathroom, and finally got the shower I had been waiting for.
----------
Once I was out and my long wavy dirty blonde hair was dried and tossed into a casual ponytail, I shuffled over to my large closet. I love shopping just as much as the next girl, even though I may not show it! I had plenty of cute clothes in my closet, but sometimes I just chose not to show them to my classmates. I had a "shy" reputation, after all. Squinting my blue eyes, looking at the clothes I had set out yesterday, and I groaned. The white button down, khaki skirt, and flats seemed to laugh in my face. Right then and there I made a decision.
You do realize that these clothes are going to make you seem just as boring as usual, right? I thought to myself as I hung them back up.
Then, I did what every girl has done at least once in her life- I began picking and choosing clothes out of my closet while throwing the discarded outfits behind me. Finally, after a huge stack of rejected clothes and an almost empty closet later, I had created an outfit that I deemed acceptable.Changing quickly, I pulled on the peach colored anchor tank top, baby blue denim shorts, and peach sandals.
This year, I promised to myself, I'm going to stand out, be who I really am, and not hide in everyone else's shadow.

~Okay hi everyone! I hoped you liked the first chapter of Torn. It is a bit short, but it gives you a bit of background on Emalin and her brother, Ehligen. I'll post the second chapter very soon. Check out my instagram and polyvore, cindyrella1d. On polyvore I will be creating sets of what some of my characters are wearing. (Usually Emalin) <3~
