Moving to a new city on your own is hard enough, let alone moving to an entirely different country. Coming from England I knew it would take time for me to adjust to my new life, I just hoped I could handle it. I needed a fresh start in life and I believed it was Gotham City.

Pulling up to my new apartment I started unloading my things out if the car. It was a struggle with all the stairs but I managed it in the end and after everything was in the apartment I collapsed onto the floor exhausted. I checked my phone and to no surprise there were three missed calls from my mum, she was always worrying about me especially after I told her my plans and where I wanted to go. Dialling her number it only took one ring for her to pick up.

"Isabelle Gray, why didn't you answer your phone?!" She screeched down the phone, although I could hear the worry in her voice.
"Woah calm down I'm fine, I've only just finished moving my things into the apartment." I was just about to speak again when she jumped bombarding me with questions.
"What's the area like? Are your windows and doors safe? Don't want anyone trying to get it. Do you-"
"Mum honestly I'm fine! It's a nice neighbourhood and the apartment is lovely, I wish you were here to see it." I reassured her.
"I'm sorry sweetheart. I'm just so nervous you being in a city like that on your own, especially with the news that's coming our about Batman and all the criminals. I just want to know you're safe." I heard her voice crack slightly, I hoped she wouldn't cry, it was hard enough when I had to leave to get my plane. "Trust me, I'm a big girl." I smirked and heard her laugh down the phone. "Anyway I'm going to try to get some sleep, I'm exhausted and have a busy day tomorrow. I'll give you a call once I'm settled." I said as I stifled a yawn.
"Okay sweetheart. I love you."
"Night, I love you too" Hanging up the phone I slowly stood up and got ready for bed. Luckily that's one thing I was able to sort out before I got here was that there would be a bed because I knew the move and the jet lag would destroy me. As I laid in bed I knew things were good and that I could have a happy life here. I gently drifted off to sleep with a smile on my face.
