"Happy Birthday Alexis!" My mother shouted, waking me with a startle. I looked around frantically, finally landing on the bright blue frosted cake in her hands. I put on a smile, grabbing my glasses from the bedside table.

"Aww! Mom, you didn't have to." I said, grabbing ahold of the offered plate. I took a bite, chewing the fluffy baked good. The taste I expected was the complete opposite of what I recieved. I spit it back onto the plate, taking my water bottle and taking large gulps. All the while, my mother looked at me confused. "Mom," I started gently. "I think you switched the sugar, with salt."

"Woops." She laughed. "Oh well, I have cookies downstairs, and I made them well. I already know." She hummed and licked her lips in delight. I laughed at her silliness, as she left the room with the baked bad.

Hopping out of bed, I threw on a tank top and cut-off jeans. I pulled my hair up into a messy ponytail, lacking the motivation to brush it first. I skipped down the steps and bounced into the kitchen, immediately stuffing a warm chocolate chip cookie into my mouth. I hummed in delight, taking another cookie and stuffing it in with the first.

My mother laughed at my antics. "Darling, don't choke on those cookies. Wouldn't want you dead before your birthday even starts." She joked.

I laughed through the heap of mush in my mouth, gulping down the cold glass of milk that was already on the counter while her back was turned. I managed to swallow both cookies, and drink the rest of her milk before she turned again. "So what would you like to do today?" She asked, noticing the empty glass, and turning to the fridge to fill it again, completely oblivious.

"I'm not sure," I told her, watching her actions very carefully.

"Well I don't know either." She said, turning back to put the milk back. Quickly, I gulped down the glass, the freezing sensation in the back of my throat and head completely worth it. When she turned back, she only barely caught me putting down the glass. "You bratt!" She screeched, taking the glass and bringing it with her to fill it again. I couldn't hold back the laughter. I buckled down and clutched my stomach while bright bellowing hollers came out of my mouth. Honestly I felt dizzy after a while, and had to grip the counter.

After I was done, finally, I turned back to my mother, about to tell my mother something. Unfortunately, I was interrupted by a knock at the door. "I'll get it!" I shout very loudly, even though my mother and I were the only one's in the house. I bounced my happy self to the door, and opened it wide with a smile on my face.

I looked down and saw a bright yellow wrapped box, with a cute little blue ribbon around it, tied into a bow tie at the top. A card was taped to the box. I looked around, slightly confused as to see no sign of life, not even a bird singing. I sighed, then smiled when I picked up the box.

I opened the little card. It was plain white, with black bold words that read; "Happy seventeenth. Hope to see you soon." I had no idea what this meant, but I opened the box anyway.

Inside was a beautiful silver chain, with a bright blue opal for the charm. I gasped, as I carefully took the necklace and wrapped it around my neck.

Just as the clip of the necklace fell and rested on the back of my neck, there was a very loud crash. I rushed into the kitchen and looked around. "Mom?" I asked, looking around. I carefully avoided the broken glass of milk spattered on the ground.

A sharp pain shot through my neck. I pulled out a sharp object, with a bright red tail, and gasped as I fell backward onto the ground.

"She's waking up be quiet!" I heard someone say. The bright lights illuminated the room, creating a bright viel. I put my hand above my head and looked around. There were men surrounding me. They had suits on and sunglasses. 'Typical government outfit.' I thought to myself.

"That necklace." One of them started. "We need it back."

"Why? What's wrong with it? Why can't you take it yourself? What's going on?" My thoughts raced to get to my mouth first. The man held up his hand to silence me.

"That necklace has tremendous power. Your father stole it from area 51, and somehow it ended up with you. When you put it on, only you can take it off. We need the necklace back. Don't worry, you and your mother will be safely put back in your home."

I thought for a moment. Area 51? Like Aliens and such? That seemed so bizarre. Then, something clicked. "My father?" I asked. "He's dead."

"No. Your father is very much alive, and on the run. That necklace has too much power for you to comprehend. You will not be returned home until we get it back." Another one of them answered.

I was so confused. I groaned. "Oh! I wish I could've stopped this."

"No--" All the men that called out were cut off when I passed out yet again.

"Happy Birthday Alexis!" My mother shouted, waking me with a startle.
