Two Months Later...
I knew there was going to be something special about today. I got up early along with Morgana and we went to work immediately. Around noon, we went back to our cell. I had another letter from Tallia.
"My loving sister Tammy,
I don't know what more to write you. We write so constantly! So this will be the last letter for a little while. I promise I will write when I get some juicy info.
Anyway, we've been fine. Austin and I began looking for an apartment we can rent so we can live with each other. We are married under the law but soon we'll have that marriage we dream of. Just like your wedding. Your wedding was a fairytale with Brad.
Brad is alright. He's calmer. Two months haven't bought him any good. They're working on their fourth album. I look at him and I see one man instead of that boy we called Bradley. James, Miranda, and Jamie have come and gone constantly from here. Oh, did you hear? Miranda is expecting! James was thrilled to hear this news.
I know you'll make the right choice when you leave in 4 months. So hopefully, you'll find us. From Katrina, who was the last person who saw you two weeks ago, she said you had cuts on your arms and we've all noticed the cuts on your arms. You've been hurting yourself. You're mutilating your arms. You can't hide your pain by being felt again. I know you're in pain but sis, you can't cut yourself.
Love always,
Tallia Angela Scaletta-Cortes xoxoxo"
Her writing made me feel safe. I threw the razor blade at the wall. I heard indistinct footsteps silhouetting the perimeter.
"Scaletta-Simpson, Halley, grab your stuff! The director wants to speak to you two!" The guard spat. I grabbed my stack of letters and a few books, threw them in a plastic bag, and followed the guard. The director? Why? What did we do?
"Good afternoon, Scaletta-Simpson, Halley..."The director started. I cut him off.
"Why are we here? Especially with our belongings?" I said.
"Excuse me, ma'am, but I am speaking. Let me finish." I took a seat in front of his desk beside Morgana. He took a deep. "You two have shown you can handle this work. And you two have had no problem. Therefore, I have come to this conclusion. You will be let out of the London Feminine Penitentiary." I looked at Morgana, who looked at me. We exchanged glances.
"When can we leave, mister director?" Morgana asked.
"Now. You have sign your papers and get your clothing."
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's do this!" I said, squealing.
I signed many release forms, my hand got stamped, RELEASED, in bright red. I grabbed my red polka-dot dress and heels and got dressed. Morgana and I left together.
"Where do you plan on going?" I asked Morgana.
"I don't know. I'm probably going to see my mother." She said.
"If you need refuge, here's my card. Don't hesitate to call or visit me." I took out a card from my purse and handed it to her. I couldn't believe it was already the end of September.
"Thanks. I will call you soon, Tammy." She gave me a hug. "Thank you for everything."
"You're welcome. I wouldn't have made it this far without you." We let to and walked our separate ways.
