A splash of something cold and wet hit Katarina square in the face. She groaned, fluttering her eyelids. When she opened her eyes, what she saw made her want to knock herself out again so as not to see her fate. She squirmed in the wooden chair to find herself tied to it and immensely so. It was almost impossible to get away. The walls around her were wooden, filling the room with a pine smell and something tangy like… tea? Katarina sniffed the air and frowned. She was in a cabin, one not too small yet not too big. Whoever captured her had everything about being a kidnapper wrong.

“Hello, my dear. It’s good to see you awake. I was starting to wonder if I had killed you or something,” a woman whispered, her voice seductive and alluring. It made Kat want to lean in to the sound.

Katarina blinked up at her. “I’ve always been a heavy sleeper. Margaret used to say that I could sleep through an earthquake.” Kat gave an innocent smile and the woman grinned back.

“You’re cute.” The woman ran her black nails through her equally as dark hair. Her eyes were a cerulean blue with unknown incantations swirling among them. She was dressed in a form fitting red dress that hugged and kissed every curve of her thrilling body. Kat couldn’t take her eyes off of her. “I am Avilla— it’s a pleasure to meet you, Princess.”

“You’re that woman from last night! The woman with the weird eyes!” Kat squirmed in her chair, wanting nothing more than to get away from her. The ropes bit at her arms.

Avilla laughed, giving off a sound of bells. “I am, but I like to call my eyes… eccentric.” She winked.

“Quit playing around with her, Avilla. I want to get this done and over with as fast as possible.” A man stepped out from behind her. His voice sounded familiar to Kat.

Katarina groaned. He was the man who had her in his arms. She couldn’t see how this could get any worse. She was a long way from home, someone was impersonating her, and that one woman had something freaky going on with her eyes. If this was considered normal, Kat felt that her life would officially be over.

Avilla sighed and then cocked her hip out, resting her hand on it. “Fine, whatever. Katarina, what do you know about Dark Raganon?” She smiled.

Katarina frowned. “You kidnapped me… to ask me about Dark Raganon?” she screeched. “That’s it, let me go or I swear…” She fidgeted, trying to free herself but only causing further pain and trouble.

The man pushed Avilla aside. “Listen to me, that girl from last night that looks so much like you… she will continue to be you until you tell us what we want to know. I’m sure the dirt poor heathen would love to marry Prince William and eat gourmet meals. If you want your life back, you tell me what I want to know. The faster you fess up, the quicker you can return home, got it?”

Kat looked into his brown eyes and smiled. “I don’t even know anything about Dark Raganon, sir. The only thing my father ever taught me was how to read. I’m sorry, but you kidnapped me for nothing.”

She knew he wasn’t going to let her go so easily, but she had nothing to lie about. As a Princess, she was told to learn the names of all the members of her families all down the line, how to read, how to write, and how to be a lady fit for a Prince someday. Nowhere within that criterion was she ever taught of a forbidden land.

The man gave her a cocky smirk, leaning into her face. “You may have everyone else in this world fooled, but you don’t have me fooled. Now, I can’t hurt you because I plan to return you.”
