"According to me the most annoying habit of others is—" Alex paused to tilt his head and narrow eyes meaningfully at Charlotte. He said with emphasis, "seriously this time and not to successfully tease you—it is, erm..., when they behave like they know the best solution for other people's problems, when they are not even in another's shoes, when they are not going through the same suffering, not feeling the same things. As much as I remember this behavior has of others has always seemed so preposterous to me."
Charlotte nodded thoughtfully. "I agree with you, yes, some people really behave like all knowing jerks regarding others' situations. But," she shifted her head a little on her palm as she still laid sideways on her bed, her elbow on a pillow and the side of her head resting on her palm as she looked up at him. "Why do you say you remember, I mean don't you anymore—"
"Are you going to be my editor, ma'am," he cut playfully from the chair. "Going microscope on all probable errors in my sentences?"
She didn't know why she did it but it was an instant reaction that she stuck out her tongue at him in retort and clamped her lips into a tight line, showing she was pissed. The only answer could none other than the answer she had discovered earlier—Alex had been successfully breaking down all her walls that were for preserving purposes from the outer world, and he had been slowly creeping into the innermost circle of her life where she allowed only her family, mostly her younger brother while regarding bringing her inner child out in action.
"It's my turn now," Alex announced in a sing song voice. Charlotte was so enjoying his playful side. It was rare, and so she took in every bit of it greedily.
"Go on."
"It is the same question for you. Let's see if I've got any habit that annoys you."
"Nothing about you annoys me, Alex. But, to be honest, things about you puzzles me sometimes."
Alex stiffened briefly before she blinked and he was back to normal again. Yes, he puzzled her alright.
"So, your answer?" he urged.
She inwardly sighed and gave her answer at last, "Smoking."
He tilted his face, looking attentive. "Any horrid encounter?"
"Mh mh... be sure if this is going to be your second question."
He smiled, shaking head. "Nope. It definitely is not."
"Then it's my turn," she said, grinning back, feeling the rush of the game pumping in her blood and heat of his unwavering stare, so focused on her, scorching in her skin. She felt like looking away, felt an onslaught of blush trying to break free up her neck, but she resisted all her body's reactions. She instead concentrated on her next question. "And it's one of the things I want to know about you the most, since a while now, but I always forget asking."
