*Chapter 8: 5 Guys & 1 Girl? Something Has To Go Wrong*

"Oh sh*t," I muttered under my breath.

"What? You're not happy to see me?" Paul asked, placing a frown on his face. He looked like Candy when she really wanted a treat except somewhat cuter and in a less feminine form.

I laughed at his expression and shook my head. "No, I'm happy to see you. Just not- well- all of you," I said.

"Oh, I see how it is," Ryan joked.

"I barely even know you," I told him.

"So? Right now would be a perfect time to catch up on some things and maybe lose some," he said, eyeing me up and down, referring to clothes.

"Sorry but I don't go for perverts," I said.

"What about Brent then?" Christian asked.

"I was forced to meet Brent, really."

"No, you weren't," he argued.

"How would you know?" I retorted.

He opened his mouth to speak but quickly shut it, a frown appearing on his face.

I smiled. "That's what I thought."

"So, Ally," Hunter said. "You want to hang with us?"

"Nah. I'm not into all of your friends," I said.

"So which ones are you into?" Ryan asked.

"Definitely Paul. He's so nice!" I replied, smiling at Paul. He smiled back at me and I continued. "Christian isn't too bad..."

"Yes!" Christian screamed, punching the air with his fist in victory.

We all looked at him and he shrugged. "What?"

I shook my head. "Eh, Hunter's a cool dude I guess but he needs to save up some money."

"For what? When you buy a house together?" Brent joked.

I glared at him and he shut up. "No. Because one of these days, he's going to end up breaking my window."

Hunter smirked at me. "I guess I'll just have to be careful then," he said, picking up some small rocks.

"No," I said, frowning. "Don't throw rocks. Just go hang with your friends," I told him.

"See ya, Ally," he said, smiling as he walked into his house, his posse trailing behind him. All except Paul who ran over and picked me up in a big hug.

"I'll see you soon," he said.

"Real soon," I replied. Not because I wanted to test it again, but because now, I was hooked on that phrase.

'Ally?' my mom asked me the other night. 'When do you want to eat dinner?'

'Real soon,' I'd replied.

'Ally, when does Steven have his next surgery?' my dad had asked me.

'Real soon.'

And from there, I just kept using that phrase. It was permanently stuck in my head.

I watched Paul toned back grow smaller and smaller until it disappeared behind the wooden door.

I sighed and walked back into my house, closing the door behind me.

I found Candy in the kitchen, sitting patiently near her food and water bowl.

"Oh, sorry," I told her.

I walked into the pantry and grabbed her dog food, pouring it into the bowl before returning the bag and pouring water into its correct bowl.
