Something Brings Me Back To You

"Something always brings me back to you, it never takes too long."

"Twirl."

I obeyed the voice, and after letting the dress fall loose, I spun in circles and watched the shiny tiles on the floor. "Are you satisfied yet?" I asked with an arched eyebrow. "Or should I maybe do a lap up the hall and back just so you can see how the dress looks while I run?"

Castalia gritted her teeth. "That won't be necessary."

      "That's what I thought."

I turned my back to her, and let myself face the mirror. Castalia had let me pick one of Mia's costumes to wear to the ball, and as soon as my eyes fell on this one, I swear I fell in love. It resembled a wedding dress, only it was the gold patterns in the center that made it stand out.

My eyes drifted to my hairstyle- which was clipped back into a loose bun with short curls appearing out at the sides. It was hard to admit, since we didn't exactly see eye-to-eye, but if it weren't for Castalia I probably wouldn't look as good as I did. She was the one who helped me get on the dress -as well as fix the corset- and the one who helped with my hair and makeup. She secretly had a taste for beauty and fashion.

"I should go and get ready myself," Castalia cleared her throat and met my eye from the mirror. "Will you be alright in here alone for ten minutes?"

I waved her off with one hand. "I'll be fine, go and get ready."

She pursed her lips, then left without another word.

My eyes followed her as she left, and soon I was left just staring at the door. As soon as I was certain she was nowhere near the room, I began to relax. My mind drifted to Klaus, who I hadn't seen since Mia dragged him off to try on some suits.
I let out a huff, and told myself to stop thinking about Klaus. I should have told myself to stop thinking about him a long time ago, but then again, I always seem to make some stupid decisions. Klaus is the center of my stupid decisions.

I closed my eyes abruptly, and let myself think. This past week has gone so fast- I felt like I've been holding in a deep breath for weeks, and I still haven't let it out yet. Should I? In the past week I've almost died, I had my humanity turned back on and now I'm in a different world. Maybe I should hold that breath for a little longer, just in case faith has a little more trouble for me.

It was then that I heard the soft knock on the door. "Come in," I said, although I guessed that it would be Castalia. I was wrong.

It wasn't Castalia that walked slowly through the door, but an old woman, who I assumed, by what she was wearing, was the maid.

Her eyes darted to mine, and for a long minute, she stared at me.

I cleared my throat. "Um, I think you have the wrong room? I'm just-"

"I'm not in the wrong room," the lady interrupted, closing the door as she stepped inside. "I knew you'd be here, Caroline Forbes."

I licked my lips, forcing out a surprised laugh. "You must be a witch, cause you're obviously psychic."

The lady raised her eyebrows and gave me a toothless smile. "That's correct, I am a witch. But thats not how I know who you are. Everybody knows who you are, Caroline. But some just doesn't know what you look like. For those who know who you are, they'll be surprised that you're here in this way."

I patted my hand against the dress and took in that information. ".. what way should I be here in?"

The lady frowned. "I'm afraid I cannot tell you that much, but I do hope you'll figure it out-" her head turned in the direction of the door, then she looked back to me in obvious hurry. "Castalia is coming. Pretend that I didn't speak to you, do you hear child?" I nodded. The lady made her way towards the door.
