White Phantom

Chapter 1: Visions

The girl saw the dead man on the floor in front of her cell and gasped in horror, then burst into tears...... 

"Chad wake up!"At first the call was distant, almost dream like. 

Then it came again, but louder and more persistent.

"GET UP!" The woman yelled.The drapes opened the light flooded the room. Chad groaned in protest and pulled the blankets over his head."Breakfast is ready downstairs so come get some. I'll be heading into town for a while so I'll be back before dusk." Her voice faded as she went further and further away.

Chad groaned his reply. Mornings weren't his thing.

Her voice came from downstairs, "You're on your own until supper! I know you can take care of yourself until then!"

"Okay," chad managed to say so she could her him, "bye Luna!"

"See ya later!" then the door closed and echoed through the empty cabin.

Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he couldn't help but wonder where that dream had come from? He had never met this girl before in his life. He'd never even heard of the dark king or his creatures.

With these thoughts racking his brain, he thoughtlessly pulled on some jeans and his favorite orange cable-knit sweater which he took the pleasure of ripping off the sleeves. He remembered how mad Luna had been after all the work she put in for him. She had taken it off him and managed to at least stop the sleeves from unraveling, and he liked it that way. Luna had made him a few more too because of how much he liked them.

He chuckled at the memory and went into the bathroom and brushed through is silver hair until it layed shaggy all over his head. His golden eyes stared back at him as he looked over his look, then stomped down the stairs to where breakfast was waiting.Luna made the usual. Waffles and bacon. 

As he began making his plate, another vision flashed before his eyes...

... the sobbing stopped and she grimaced in pain. Blood oozed out of a wound in her side and looked like it had re-opened.Loud thundering steps then echoed through the halls of the dungeon.He was coming back...

... As he regained his grip on reality, the plate had dropped from his hand and shattered on the floor.

"What the...?" he really wanted to know what was going on.

What was that? Why am I having these visions? He thought to himself, what's going on?He tried to block the vision from his mind as he went about doing the daily chores. Minutes went by, and while he was beginning to dust the banister, another vision hit him like a wall...

... her heart raced as she saw the giant man in front of her. His gnarly grin made her skin crawl."I see you've awoken." His voice verberated through her cell bars and through her body.She winced as she tried to speak, "What am I doing here?""I need your power, lying dormant within you..."

... His voice trailed as Chad came to realize that he managed to take hold of the banister before he blacked out with the vision. He needed to figure out why this was happening to him? Why was he able to see these visions? And why were they effecting him? Obviously the girl was crying out for help, but he couldn't put a finger on why it was him that she had chosen.A thought came to his mind through the confusion. Luna.

That's it! Luna would know what to do!Flying up the stairs to his room, he grabbed his boots and coat from the closet. He flew out the front door as he pulled on his coat. Walking into a more wooded area near the cabin that he and Luna lived in, he checked to see if there were any unwanted eyes.Years ago, Luna had chosen this cabin to live in because it was just outside of town. Quiet and secluded and hidden by trees, it was the perfect place for a boy like him. Summoning all his strength, he began to manipulate the air around him. He could feel the currents funneling through is hands and around his legs to his feet. Then, facing his palms towards the earth, he focused on making a cushion of air between his feet and the ground. Satisfied with his efforts, he readied his stance.
