"Hair up or down?" I looked over at my twin sister as we were getting ready for school. It was our first day of middle school and we were both beyond excited."Down, so that people won't confuse us." People always got us confused, no matter how much we tried to look different. Our own mother can't tell us apart, although that's probably because she always high off her ass.
"Are you nervous? Because I am." She asked breaking me from my thoughts. I looked at her and shrugged, "Not really sis, just don't want anyone laughing at my name and calling me a boy."
Before we were born our mom thought she was having a boy and a girl. She named my sister Keanna and me, the boy, Keandre. After learning she was having two girls she just decided to not change our names.
"If they do, just come and find me." She hugged me before we continued getting ready for school."
I took my time and did my hair, got dressed and got all of my belongings before Keonna and I made our way to the bus stop.
Once we got to school we got our schedules, seeing that we had no classes together, we went our separate ways. I was kind of bummed because I wouldn't see my twin all day, but it was expected because we've never had classes together before.
I made my way through the crowded halls looking for my homeroom class. I grew frustrated after the tardy bell rang and I still couldn't find it. "You lost?" I heard someone say from behind me. I sighed and turned around, seeing a very handsome boy headed my way.
"Um, yeah I am." I said lowly, while looking down at my feet avoiding eye contact. Communication was a weak spot for me, I wasn't as outgoing as Keonna, nor was a friendly like her either. I simply just wasn't fond of people.
I looked up at the boy who had grabbed my schedule out of my hand and started looking over it. "But, I'll find my way though." I politely grabbed my schedule from him and started walking out of the door.
"See you later, Keandre!" I heard him yell after me before I made it out of the door and finding my correct class.
The rest of the day was the same, I was lost and late to almost every class until that boy, Jordan, insisted of showing me around. I was thankful for him but I was even more thankful that the day was over.
Sitting along side a sleeping Keonna on the long bus ride home, I stared out the window, thankful for life. Although we didn't have the best life, we sometimes had no lights or water, some days we went to bed hungry and our mom was a drug addict, I was still thankful for life. It could be worse, is what I always thought and I was thankful that I had a roof over my head and a loving sister.
Once I saw our stop coming up, I lightly shook Keonna, who was asleep on my shoulder. We got off of the bus and made our way inside of the apartment complex.
"I'm going to go check the mail, and you put some noodles in the microwave for me?" I looked over at my sister, who just nodded and continued her stroll to our apartment.
Walking over to the mailboxes, I found our box and started rummaging through my backpack for the key. After about two full minutes of looking, I finally found it and retrieved our mail, which was mostly bills. I started getting this weird feeling while I was walking back to the apartment. I sped up my pace because I mostly get those feelings when something is wrong with my sister.
I walked inside, seeing my mom high off her ass sleeping on the living room floor. I sat the mail on the table and headed to the kitchen to get my noodles.
"STOP PLEASE DONT RAPE ME!" I heard Keonna scream out before hearing a masculine voice tell her to shut her bitch ass up. I tiptoed to my moms room carefully trying not to be heard and grabbed her gun from her closet. I slowly made my way into the room I shared with Keonna and seen the figure on top of her.
Tears fell from my eyes as I watched her cry and beg for him to stop. Aiming the gun at him, I closed my eyes and pulled the trigger.
At the sound of a click, he stopped and snapped in my direction. I was frozen still before I just threw the gun at him, he jumped off the bed causing the gun to hit Keonna upside the head and knock her out.
"Damn thats definitely going to leave a mark." I said to myself. All of a sudden, the rapist was throwing punches at me. I was trying to fight back but he overpowered me and knocked me down. His naked body on top of mine, choking me, as I struggled for breath I gained enough strength to knee him in this stinking ass nuts causing him to fall off of me.
Getting up, I ran out of the room and into the kitchen grabbed a knife and the house phone and dialed 911.
"911, What is your emergency?" I heard the dispatcher speak into the phone.
"There's a man in my home and he was raping my sis-" I yelled into the phone before it was knocked out of my hand. Without thinking I grabbed the knife and started slanging it, cutting him in the arm. He knocked it out of my hand before he started swinging at me once again. He punched me in the mouth, causing blood to gush from my lip. Grabbing me and ripping my shirt he started punching me repeatedly until I started to grow weak.
Grabbing the empty skillet from the stove, I swung it at him with all my might, causing him to fall to the floor. I grabbed the knife and stabbed him in the chest twice before running to make sure my sister was okay.
Shortly after, the police arrived and started questioning Me, Keonna and the woman the birthed us. The kept asking the same questions over and over while writing things down.
"Why did you kill him?" Officer Daniels asked me.
I looked up to him and simply shrugged, "Because I am my sister's protector and for her I'll risk it all." I answered honestly before being cuffed and walked out of the apartment.
Once they put me in back on the police car, I saw Keonna crying. It broke my heart because I was going to jail for murder at the age of twelve and my twin would have to grow up without me.
