It was one of the happiest days of my life when Marinette accepted my invitation to prom. Someone so amazing, so...perfect, going on a date with me! I admired her that entire week, unable to look away from those dazzling bluebell eyes. I had always been one to stay in the background and observe from a distance, but she made me want to come out from the shadows. It was her kindness and caring attitude. So how...tell me, how...am I supposed to go on without her?

Even though gathering up the courage to ask Marinette was incredibly stressful, my sister helped me through it and even gave me a few tips. A kiss on the cheek? Surely I could do that..."Hey, Mari!" I called softly, my voice not loud enough to disrupt anyone, but still audible.
She turned around with that kind smile she always seemed to be wearing. It made my heart flutter, andmy calmness dissolved completely. I wanted to see that smile all the time. Was that selfish of me? That goofy little movement of her lips copied onto mine immediately as I approached her.
"Oh- Suka! I mean- Luka!" She stuttered out, tugging at the end of her shirt nervously. I let out a soft chuckle at her nervous quirks, moving my hand to rub the back of my neck.
"Hello, Marinette," I responded, my voice seeming to chime with ease. Let me tell you something, I was definitely not at ease. I guess I'm good at hiding my emotions. Usually. "There's something I've been meaning to ask you," I said with a faint smile, making sure to not break the contact between our eyes. "Or maybe..." With the sentence that was never finished, I take out my guitar.
"One stroke of a chord can't be enough to compare with your eyes
One crack of a whip can't compete with the fire in your soul
I notice these things about you... The wonder that surrounds you...
Your laugh always comes as a surprise
No matter what the mood, this tingling is outta control
And all these things... About you... Makes me want to..."I subconsciously leaned closer, my gaze casting to her lips for more than a few seconds before quickly pecking her cheek.
"Make your heart mine....
Make your smile mine...
Make.... You... Mine...
So won't... You be... Mine?~"I finished with the last strum of my guitar, my eyes not moving from her face to observe her expression. It didn't seem like there was much of one to see though. It was just blank, like a broken computer screen. Although, I could slowly see it start to spring back to life, starting with a blush.
"Y-Yours?" She managed to spit out, the crimson taking a definite place on her cheeks.
"I mean-.... My prom date...?" I scarcely whispered, my breathing unsteady. This wasn't like me; I was a relaxed, chill, person. She made my heart go wild and my knees start to shake. She seemed conflicted about this, looking over her shoulder almost as if she was looking for someone.
Though her eyes were undecided, she slowly agreed with a smile, "Yes!"
I should've caught that fake smile. I should've known she'd never love me. I think back to the unsure wash over her bluebell eyes now, angered that I couldn't see it before.

A few months after the prom, we were dating. Dating can either be one of the best things in the world, or something that'll scar you forever. For me, it did both. It carved scars into my heart that won't just wash away with water. I remember rising to the top of the Eiffel Tower, those long night phone conversations, popcorn wars... She really was simply the best. It was my fault. My fault that I didn't see it.
"Come on, come on, we're going to be late!" Marinette hollered as she gripped my sleeve, tugging me along.
"Ah, ah, ah!" I stopped her with a wave of my finger. "What did you forget today, Ma-Ma-Marinette?" She shook her head slightly, rolling her eyes.
"Luka- we have to-" Before she could finish, I pressed our lips together and gave her a gentle kiss.
"There. Isn't that better? From the rhythm of your heart, it seems to have just increased the jittering ..." I teased, before releasing her. She crossed her arms, trying to hide the light blush that spread onto her face.
"You know I get all- You can't-"
"Ah, but it works every time!" I reminded her with a wink, heading out the door frame. "C'mon, Marinette! We're going to be late!"

I always wondered where she went when she suddenly disappeared, not coming back until hours later. Whenever I asked, she just avoided the question. I suppose I know the reason now... When I think of what she was doing before she came over... It scares me. Although, there was always one portion of time when she seemed to leave a lot more.
"Hey, Lukaberry, I'm heading out to hang out with Adrien," she explained, throwing her jacket on.
"Weren't we supposed to have that movie night tonight... Remember? Popcorn wars?" I snickered slightly at the memory but hoped she'd stay.
"I'm really sorry, Luka! I totally blanked! Adrien and I can reschedule-"
I interrupted her, "No, no, it's fine. Go have fun, okay?" I ruffled her hair lightly, my fingertips dusting along her blue hair.
"Are you sure, I mean-" She started to gesticulate with her hands.
"I'm sure." I wasn't one to be clingy, or, at least, I wasn't going to show it. I wrapped a scarf around her neck since it was a bit chilly out.
"Thanks, Luka!" She smiled widely, dashing out the door.
"Wait- aren't you forgetting-...." I slowly trailed off when I noticed she was already gone. I wasn't upset that she forgot our anniversary; the blunette was very forgetful. But... All I really wanted was a kiss.
I really should've seen the signs, it was all quite obvious. She spent less and less time with me while spending more time on her endeavors. I tried not to get jealous since I'm not a jealous person, but I just couldn't help myself.

"Oh, I'm just going to see Alya!" she would say, lacking eye contact. Or, "I have to go buy new fabrics!" It was always something. One day, when her reply was, "I'm visiting Adrien for a bit!"
This was probably a violation of all the ways a trusting boyfriend could act, but I followed her. I had to see where she was going. Marinette slid into her car, humming softly to herself as she drove off. I wasn't too far behind her with my jeep, making sure to go unnoticed.
When she arrived at the destination, I was relieved. It was Adrien's house. She wasn't lying to me! God, I felt awful... Until I peered in the window. The blond and smaller girl didn't skip a beat before pulling into a warm embrace and connecting their lips.

My heart felt like it was being ripped apart, like someone was tearing my insides apart. I've never felt this aching feeling before. Please, make it stop! Stop kissing her!.... Stop kissing... Him... I stumbled out of the jeep but just ended up falling on my knees and clutching my chest. The pain is unbearable. Has she felt this way the whole time? Did she ever actually love me? I start sobbing, the tears overflowing. I can't handle it... Adrien's better looking than me, smarter than me... He's... Everything I'm not.
Maybe Adrien is the one she deserves. If only I was better...
