Another Surprise

I shifted myself with all my belongings to Yorkshire. Many of my in-law's relatives from Liverpool tried to contact me, but I pledged to myself, to not look back at any cost. I found a job at Stonegate mall as a sales girl. I started living at my parent's apartment, which I rented out after they passed away. I often became oblivious at work, and habitually wandered across the streets, didn't care about eating until wooziness hit me. Finally I made a friend, after like, 2 months. Helena. She was nice to me, and was often dominant when I refused to eat anything. If I used to call her at 3 o'clock of mid night, she would appear to console me with her drowsy eyes. At times, Helena even baked me my favorite walnut cake. She often surprised me with movie and concert tickets. Thanks to her. She was exactly what I needed for the time.

December arrived with snow. Christmas was about to come as well. Helena said she was going to her grandmother's place for Christmas. It was a winter evening when blustering wind sent thick profusions of snow everywhere. I wrapped myself with a blanket on the couch  and watched Netflix. I suddenly started to hear the sobbing of a baby. Helena wasn't in town, their house beside mine, was all empty. I pondered, someone nearby might be walking around with a baby. But it was too cold to walk outside with a baby. When the cry grew louder, I assumed someone might had stood in my doorsteps for a bit of shelter. But after a couple of minutes, the sobbing stopped. I don't know why but my blood was running all cold when I couldn't hear the baby. I managed to unwrap myself as fast as I could and raced to the door to open it. As I opened the door a thick wind of snow almost pushed me inside, and made me unable to open my eyes. Yet I squinted to see, I discovered a basket using my vague vision. I grabbed on its handle and brought it in. After closing the door my vision was back to normal, I found thickly gathered snow covering the basket's bed. I brushed the snowflakes with my hands and a fraction of cloth appeared. I started swiping faster until I found a cloth spun into a ball. I touched it,  and felt the utmost urge to explore it. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I found a white skinned baby sleeping sinlessly inside the basket. I got scared and did a double take, it was truely a baby! but why wasn't the baby crying? waters glimmered in my eyes when I carefully took the baby in my lap. I landed my ear to her tiny fragile chest and found out she was ALIVE! she might had got fainted due to cold. I rushed to the fireplace holding the baby on my lap and straight away uncovered the cloth from her tiny body, and held her against the fire keeping a secure distance. My eyes craved to see her awake, I rubbed her mini hands and legs. I stopped when few thoughts surrounded my brain, like, who could have left her here? which human could do such inhuman activities? my engrossment broke all of a sudden when I felt a puny kick on my right cheek! I looked at the baby bulging eyes! she was yet eyes-closed.. I looked up at the fire and the same kick repeated but this time with a burst of sniffling sob! That's it! the baby was crying! oh my goodness! Tears that glimmered in my eyes, finally streamed down my cheeks.. I felt so overwhelmed of the baby being safe that I started sobbing accompanying the baby.. I felt like I was standing at the seventh heaven..
