"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men of their sins, your father will not forgive you of yours", the reverend said wiping the sweat from his forehead with the handkerchief nestled into his hand. "Mathew chapter six, verse fourteen to fifteen".
"Amen", the older church sister with the big hat on her head bellowed. She held her hands up, whipping her paper fan back and forth in the humid church.
"Do you know what that means?", the reverend's voice echoed into the large cathedral. "It means that if someone harms you, steals from you, talk about you behind your back!! Yesss Lorddd! You turn the other cheek! You forgive them and instead say a prayer for them!".
"Amennnn!", the church sister yelled, hopping to her feet to do the Holy Ghost shuffle.
"Sista Ruth knows what I'm talking about!", the reverend motioned to her. "Can I get a hallelujah?!"
"Hallelujah", the congregation responded.
The reverend took a sip of his water, wiping his face once again before placing the mic to his mouth.
"God is good all the time..", he trailed off, holding onto the podium.
"And all the time God is Good!", the congregation finished along with him.
The choir rose as the organist began to play a familiar tune. It was 'I'm gonna be ready' by Yolanda Adams. They wore royal blue and yellow church robes as they swayed to the music.
I say a prayer every night

"The ushers will pe passing the collection plates around. Please give graciously from your hearts", the reverend said before stepping away and letting the choir continue with their song.

After the service, I moved into the carpeted hallway of the cathedral to greet my friend.
"Ahmaud!", Kyle said.
Kyle had already removed his church robe and was now wearing a black suit. He finally looked like the frat brother I remembered from college.
"Kyle",I chuckled, giving him a hug. "It's been a minute since I've seen you man but it looks like you're doing well".
"I think I am too. I want you to meet my wife", Kyle said looking around the crowded hallway.
