Under an Umbrella

The pocket watch, resting snuggly in your vest pocket, ticked on perpetually, marking every second spent in overtime. Sure, it was an inconvenience and you'd love to be doing something else, but the life of a Reaper was tough, and you were willing to take any extra work you could get. However, some weren't as patient as yourself.

"How much longer?" Your red-headed boyfriend leant dramatically across your desk, causing a few drops of ink to flick across your page.

You released an exasperated sigh, "For god's sake, Grell. I've told you about a million times-"

"Five more minutes?" He finished your sentence with an unamused frown.

"I- Yes. Five more minutes, if you'd just be a little more patient..." You flipped to the back of the document, "Maybe we can get out of here before it gets dark."

The bouncy blur of red stalked over to the window, yanking the shades open to reveal the night sky, "It's been dark for almost an hour! And you've been saying 'five more minutes' for twice as long!"

You paused your quill and glanced back at him, his lip stuck out in a pout, "Alright... Fine, I'll finish it up."

He held his hands to his chest and pulled a satisfied grin.

"Just give me five minutes." You finished.

"(Y/n)!" He complained, stomping his foot and looking somewhat like a toddler.

"Relax... geez." You rolled your eyes and signed the bottom of the page, "There, done."

You smiled contently at your work, you'd gotten quite a bit done, especially with your boyfriend whining and tugging on the back of your shirt the whole time. Most people couldn't handle the rambunctious reaper, and even you were a tad vexed by him at first meeting, but he'd grown on you (like a parasite maybe?) and in the end you fell for him. No one had really expected it, well, except for him, who claimed to have known it was to be from the very beginning.

"Finally! Let's go!" He snatched up your hand and dragged you out the door, leaving you close to no time to grab your jacket and bag.

"You could've just left without me, you know." You followed him to the door, allowing your fingers to link with his, "Instead of wrecking havoc in my cubicle and crying the whole time, you totally ruined the organization of my files, I had a system."

"Boohoo, your color coated filing cabinet is all messed up, that just means you're a nerd." He rolled his eyes and pressed his shoulder into yours, you could feel the warmth of his body through your shirt as you stepped into the nippy, night air, "Besides, I couldn't leave you to work late, all by yourself, how unromantic would that be?"

"And it's not because you have no other friends except me?" You teased, taking a turn down the street and starting the route home. It was true, before you dated Grell, you were basically his only friend who didn't hate his guts.
