you walked into the set, holding one of the clipboards to put in your signature, admiring the purple and pink lights.

your eyebrows furrowed and you could hear a female interviewer talk, then silence.

and there it was. his voice washed into the room and you could feel your stomach drop.

fuck, his voice is something else.

you quickly put your signature into the box by your name, taking notice of how messy your handwriting was and how clammy your hands felt.

after setting the pen down on the table which had a bunch of sound equipment and snacks on it, you made your way towards the huddle of producers and cameramen next to the interviewer. you could see him, and you were pretty sure he glanced at you a few times.

"you know i just— you know, boys can be, uh, kind of— not femme, but like boys can be boys," joji nodded to himself, then looked up at you.

there was eye contact and that made your stomach drop even harder. he proceeded to say, "and— and uh, it's okay to be conflicted," and with that, he looked down hearing the girl on her high seat ask her next question about the community at 88rising.

why did he say that as if it were directed to you? why was he even talking like that? what did he mean about the femme part?

you were pulled back into reality when george started speaking again, except now he wasn't looking at the camera or the interviewer.

his eyes were trained down on his lap while he spoke, as if he realized what he just did, "the 88 gang is super dope, we all—" and there he goes looking up at you again.

the second your eyes lock, your cheeks pop pink and you clench your jaw and turn around to go somewhere else.

you had started working with 88rising 2 months ago, just as a general assistant, organizing paperwork and helping out with shit.

at that point you were acquainted with everyone but joji. he was just so silent around you, only spoke to you about work but otherwise he'd always just stay away and watch.

at the studio, everyone knew and accepted your sexual orientation, no one fucked with you or made you feel bad about it. so you thought maybe joji really didn't like queer people, especially considering his old content on youtube.

there was always a constant fight about this between you and yourself in your head. was all that shit he said online true or just a part of this filthy frank character? did he actually think all those terrible things?

you decided to let it go and find some work to do outside of where they were filming. you headed out into the halls and helped put away props from some other shoot they did.

about two hours later, you finally got your break. and lord knew you needed it.

you headed out into the lot between sets and walked to the usual area where you sat, sometimes with coworkers, sometimes alone like today. it was a great place because it was between two buildings and you felt comfortable with the way it was hidden from everyone else.

you needed to get your head straight, you couldn't keep thinking about joji and how he looked at you. you couldn't keep thinking about how you felt about him. after all, he is the joji miller. and your'e just an assistant for his label.
