IT WASN'T ALWAYS LIKE THIS.

Mornings were carefree, dad would be awaking watching TV while she helped her mother could breakfast for the family, she never understood why her mother's hands would shake when she placed his food in from of him or the way she'd flinch when he rose his hand.

She shook it off as a child thinking it was nothing. Until she was ten years old and heard her parents arguing in the sitting room about her so she claimed down the seats her curiosity getting the best of her. It wasn't until she heard a slap did she start paying attention, she took a peek at them startled. Her mother stared at her dad flabbergasted her hand holding her red cheek. It all started to make sense.

As a child she felt the strong need to protect her mother, she loved her with all her heart. So seeing her on the verge of tears made her blood boil sprinting down the steps until she stood in front of her protecting her from the danger in front of her. Not thinking about the consistencies.

"How could you!" The young child screeched shielding her mother glaring at her father. "You hit mam!"

He kneeled in front of her and her grip tighten around her mother. "No, I didn't, Adam. We're talking them she tripped, isn't that right dear?" He cranked his neck at her followed by Adam.

Her eyes zoned on her trembling lips noticing a faint mark on the bottom age glimpsed back at her dad narrowing her gaze. "I'm ten not stupid. You're a monster!"

She winced at the pinch her mother gave her as her father glared at his only daughter. "No, your mother is. She tried to make you away from me." He held her shoulders tight but not enough to hurt her.

"So you hit her?" She demanded flabbergasted ripping his hands away. "It isn't hard to use your words? If we were meant to talk with our fist then they wouldn't have taunt us how to speak."

"You're right, but sometimes words aren't enough."

She yelped in pain as her back hit the alleyway wall she latched forward only for her head to collide with the brick wall his nails digging into her shoulders, her eyes shut tightly.

"You piece of shit nearly caused me have a car accident!" He roared in her face, a hint of alcohol in his breath making her gag. She wished to point out he had chosen to drink but she knew it'd only make it worse. A sizzle of red pain rang in her cheek as she collapsed on the floor she swore clutching her sizzling cheek.
