Up to here is our very own Jacob McKnight. I plan for the first couple of chapters to post a picture of who the cast is. This is also my first story on here in a while. So please vote and comments your thoughts! Thanks!!!
Many people don’t like to talk about the bad stuff that happens in their life. I don’t have that privilege. Everything in my life had been nothing but a shit hole of darkness and despair.
My name’s Jared McKnight. I’m 17, and just about 6ft tall. I have the worst life ever. My mom passed away to cancer but she was already fighting pneumonia before the doctor’s found a tumor in her brain. She fought long and hard, but wasn’t able to recover. That was when things really went downhill. My dad, he’s a shorter man, about 5’ 7”. He was a good man, before mom. He would get dressed like he usually would in his business outfit and head off to work. But when mom got sick, he started calling off more and more frequently until his boss fired him. That’s when he started drinking. A lot. Then it happened. He got mad one day and hit me right across the face.
It didn’t stop there. But luckily, it was the first day of my new high school. Breykwood high. I dreaded it. But at least I would be able to get away from dad. I kinda had a reputation to uphold. I was known as the rebellious genius. I had straight A's but I got in trouble often. Dad never cared. Every time I was late home he’d hit me. That’s been happening since mom died. I’ve gotten used to most of it.
I walked into the building and saw the usual crowd. The jocks who never talked to me unless they wanted me to do their homework for them. There was the popular girls, always checking their makeup and nails. Never really doing anything productive. There’s the slackers and goths. I thought about joining them, but black just isn’t my thing. So everyday I have to hide my bruises and scars behind layers of clothes and fake. It almost like I live two completely different lives. My “social life” and my “personal, hell-hole-of-a-life.” Above all the fake I had in my life, one thing I had to hide for the life of me. My hair.
You’re probably thinking, “Why your hair? What’s special about it?” Well, I’ll tell you. I wear a wig. I have naturally white hair. I’ve tried to dye it and nothing sticks. You name it, I’ve done it. NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING sticks to my hair. Do I’ve hid it for the last 17 years under a stylish, wavy brown wig.
I heard the morning bell ring signaling that I have to get to homeroom. I open my locker and the principal walks up to me with two people following him.
“Mr. McKnight,” he started. He was a smaller man. He stood about 5 inches below me. “As our star student, I want you to show these two around. You share the same classes except 6th period. Clarice, here,” he said gesturing towards the girl. “And Alexander,” he repeated the same gesture towards him.
“Just Alec. No need to use the whole thing.” he said.
What hit me, was that Alexander, Alec, was strikingly handsome. Almost too handsome for his own good.
“Whatever you say Mr. Roderick.” I replied, my voice showing my enthusiasm to do this menial task.
“So. I’ve heard that you’re the best student here.” Clarice said grabbing my hand.
“Yes… why do you want to hold my hand?”
“ I do it with everyone. Especially my friends.”
I was taken back by that. Even with the layers of my façade, she wanted to be friends.
“Fr… friend?” I stuttered. “You want to be friends?” I asked.
“Why not!” she perked. “You seem like one of the cooler people here. Right Alec?” she glanced behind us.
Alec had a gloomy look on his face. Like something happened and he didn’t know how to cope with it.
“Well,” I began. “I think it’s time for us to break up.” I joked pointing to our intertwined hands.
She was shocked. “Never! We’re together forever.”
My mind went down the drain. I did have a reputation to uphold. I was taken out of my thoughts when Clarice dragged me into first period math. Everyone looked at us as we entered. I led us to the back of the class where I took the corner seat.
I felt arms around me and saw it was Alec. He lifted me out of my seat and placed me in the one in front of me. I spun around and glared at him. He shrugged in response.
“Class. Time to get out note paper. We’re going to be doing more notes on sinusoidal functions.”
Class went by rather slow. I glanced back to Alec every so often to find he was doing the same. I spun back around, heat rising in my cheeks.
“Alec,” I turned around. “Do you want to… do our homework together?” I said very shyly.
“Sure. Follow Clarice and I after school to our house.”
My stomach churned at that. I had a mysterious fascination for the slightly shorter blonde boy. As the bell rang, Clarice came and grabbed my hand again. It twitched at the feeling. It was still so new. She began skipping down the hall to our next class. We we’re on our way to Problems of Democracy when we were stopped by Mr. Roderick.
“Mr. McKnight, Ms. Clarice, Mr. Alexander,” he said looking at each of us individually. “I hope you are enjoying your classes. Anything I can help you with?”
“We’re fine.” I said flatly.
“Mr. McKnight,” he began.
“Get the fuck away.” I interrupted. “Just go!”
His face was a mixture of fear and pissed. I spun on my heel to look at Alec, thinking he’d find me disgusting and whatnot. I looked up seeing him and my heart dropped. He looked so annoyed and upset with me. Then he burst out and was so happy and excited.
“How’d you do that!?”
“Do what?” I asked.
“How can you have the balls to say that to the principal?”
“I’ve done that for years. I may be skinny and not have a lot of muscle, but I rule the school. People fear me.”
“The next couple of classes were a breeze. Chemistry was boring and AP literature was terribly easy. Next was lunch. I left the building and went to my “special spot.”
