"So Chris, tell us. You have over 3 million subscribers on YouTube and you still go to OUR school. Why? Don't you have like a lot of money to get a better education?" Lauren, my best friend asks.
I look over at Chris as he looks at Lauren with a questionable look.
"Because. I love going to this school. It's the best," Chris says, smiling at Lauren and then taking a bite of his sandwich.
Lauren let's out a small and low growl, only loud enough for Chris to hear it.
Chris begins to laugh as he takes another bite.
"How can you be friends with this guy. He's so annoying," Lauren asks, turning her attention to me.
I smile and shake my head. "Because he used to be my neighbor and we were friends for the longest time until he moved," I responded.
"Yeah.... Lauren," Chris says, stretching out her name, trying to get on her nerves.
Lauren rolls her eyes as she takes a swig of her flavored water.
"Are you guys gonna ignore me?" Beatrice asks.
"No. I'm not. He's just. He's so annoying!" Lauren says, "how did you even get famous on YouTube."
Chris leans in towards Lauren and whispers, "because of gaming videos and lit Vlogs!"
Chris backs away and bursts into laughter as Lauren's face becomes red.
"Ugh. I hate you so much. It was a rhetorical question," Lauren says, grabbing her tray and standing up.
"Aw. Are you going to leave me here all by myself?" Chris says in a joyful voice.
Lauren gives off a fake smile, "fuck off. Let's go Luke and Beatrice."
As Lauren and Beatrice walk off, I stand up and pick up my tray. "Are we still hanging out today?" I ask.
Chris gives me a smile and a nod.
Before I walk away, I apologize to Chris about Lauren.
"It's fine. Go before she bitches at you," Chris says.
I smile and walk off into the direction Lauren and Beatrice went.
AFTER SCHOOL...
"Hey hun. How was your first day as a Senior?" My mom asks as I walk into the kitchen.
"It was good. My friends finally met Chris," I say, laughing.
My mom walked over to the coffee pot as she poured herself a fresh cup.
"Oh. And how did that go," my mom asks as she sets the pot down.
I open up the fridge and grab some leftovers from the night before.
"Let's just say this," I say as I open the container, "never let them be near each other."
My mom begins to laugh as she take a sip of her coffee.
"Well can you help your little sister out with her homework? It's science... your favorite," my mom says, smiling.
"Yeah. That's fine. Let me just eat really quick. Where's Dad at?" I ask.
My mom sits down at the kitchen table as she reaches for her phone.
"He went to the mall with his friends," my mom says.
I finish cooking the leftovers and sit down at the table as I eat.
My mom looks up from her phone. "Any big plans today?"
I finish swallowing the food as I look up.
"Yeah. Chris is gonna be here around 5 and we are going to go to his house. He has some video idea that he wants me to be apart of," I say.
I pull out my phone as I hear the front door open and slam shut, followed by stomping.
"Max is home," my mom says in a sigh.
I look out into the living room to see Max sitting on the couch, on his phone.
"It wasn't okay what Dad said," I whisper to mom.
My mom sits the phone down as she calls out for Max.
"What do you want?" Max angrily asks, walking into the kitchen, swinging his arms.
"Please don't be mad at me. I love you no matter what you are sweetie," my mom says, looking at Max.
Max smiles and begins to laugh.
"I don't care. You fucking support that asshole. I don't see you going off on him. Ever since that night I came out to you guys, he has barely been home and when he is, he's drunk. That chair is tainted with alcohol. So as long as you keep supporting his homophobic ass, do NOT TALK TO ME," Max screams out the last part really loud as he stomps off and up the stairs.
I look over at my mom to see her beginning to cry. I get up and comfort my mom.
"Mom. Don't let Max get to you. He's not mad at you. He's mad at Dad," I say.
I begin to hear my mom sob.
"Our Family is not the same anymore," my mom sobbed out.
I sit down on the chair next to my mom.
"Look. Tomorrow, Lily, you, and me can go out and have some fun. You need to leave the house. You are always in here cleaning something," I say, beginning to laugh.
My mom looks at me and smiles, also beginning to laugh.
"Yeah. You're right. Thank you Luke. Thank you for being here for me when no one is," my mom says, leaning in and hugging me.
