"That was a close one," Max says to me as we walk into the house. I waited a second to respond back so I could catch my breath.
"Yeah. It was," I say, as my mom walks up to us.
"Good thing you guys are on time," my mom says.
Max runs upstairs, ignoring my mom.
"You're gonna have to ignore him," I say, walking to the kitchen. My mom follows behind me, "where's Dad?"
"Upstairs. Still sleeping. We had a bad night," my mom says.
I look at her and notice a bruise on her arm.
"This isn't normal," I explain, pouring a cup of coffee. My mom sits down at the table as I do the same.
"He was just drunk. He didn't mean it," my mom says, trying to justify my dad.
"Well. I met Max's boyfriend last night," I say, smiling, "his name is Henry."
My mom smiles at the thought. "At least he has someone to make him happy."
I begin to think if I should tell my mom that I'm gay as well.
"So how was the party?" My mom asks.
I take a swig of coffee, "good."
"Did you meet any girls?" My mom asks.
I finally decided to tell her the truth.
"Mom. I need to tell you something," I say, hesitantly.
"What is it sweetie?" My mom asks, smiling weakly.
"I'm ..." I say but get interrupted by Max.
"Mom. I want you to meet someone," Max says, as Henry walks in.
My mom looks at Max and Henry and smiles.
"This is my boyfriend, Henry," Max says.
"Nice to meet you Henry," my mom says.
"Nice to meet you as well," Henry says, smiling.
My mom gets up. "Let's all go out and enjoy ourselves. I need to get away from here anyways," my mom says, smiling and walking into the living room.
For the rest of the day, we all went to the mall and my mom bought some clothes for us, even Henry. We walked around and enjoyed the day.
As we were eating, my mom was talking about Max when he was little and Max started getting embarrassed, trying to tell her to stop.
We did eventually stop by the wishing fountain. The wishing fountain was something that our high school has called it for decades.
Apparently, you make a wish and it comes true but the thing is that it did but it always ended up bad.
About 15 years ago, this kid named Ben made a wish. He was a junior and his mom was really ill and was about to die from cancer.
Ben really loved and cared about his family and he had heard about the wishing fountain from his friends.
One day he came to the wishing fountain and wished for his mom to recover and to defeat cancer.
A month later, and the unspeakable happened. Bens mom was in recovery and had defeated cancer. But sadly, a week later, Ben was walking home from school and his foot got stuck in the train tracks and he died.
Ever since then, anyone that has made a wish, gets what they want but there is a consequence after.
We didn't make a wish but I almost did. I almost wished for my mom to leave my dad.
Henry stayed with us that night. I had to act like he was my friend so my dad didn't expect it to be Max's boyfriend.
I quickly ate and went upstairs, explaining that I was tired. Henry had to come with me, of course.
I laid on my bed as I slowly drift off to sleep.
4 am
I heard my phone ding. At first, I thought it was my alarm but soon realized it wasn't as it was pitch black in the room.
A text message from an unknown number it said. I unlock my phone and view the message.
I gasp at the sight of what I saw.
It was a picture of me and Chris kissing from the night before. There was a message below;
"If you don't want anyone to know about your little secret, you better do as I say or I'll post it all over the internet. You'll get your first message in the morning faggot"
I turn off my phone as my mind begins to race. I didn't know who it was or what they were gonna do but I knew that I had to do everything because I couldn't lose Chris again.
I love Chris and I don't want to see him get hurt by this.
