You didn't tell me his backstory so I made one up!!
The backstory is simple and brief as it should be. Obsidian belongs to Black Diamond, an OC I made up recently. He is the only "male" diamond and is usually forgotten because the other diamonds don't like to talk about him and it is usually against the rules to mention his name. The majority of his gems have a male body type with few gems that have a female body type.
Obsidian sometimes wears limb enhancers to make him look taller and stronger than he really is. The limb enhancers also serve as one of his weapons.
Based on my research, obsidians are associated with the dark and light of the human soul. It identifies the darkness within a person so it can help to clear it way in a positive manner. When people gaze upon obsidians they are reminded of his power and protectiveness because of its dark and shiny lustre. Therefore, Obsidians are warriors, they make strong and powerful defenders. Their job is defend other home wold gems or act as body guards to Black diamond or gems that viewed as rare or important such as Sphalerite. Sphalerite is another very important gem because sphalerite gemstones are associated with healing, spiritual grounding, harmony and meditation.
