After much difficulty, we have finally landed in Roanoke. Everyone was ecstatic to reach the shore. We immediately unloaded the ship, moving all of our supplies onto the island. The tasks were split up into groups, so everyone was working. Scouts traversed to the opposite side. They discovered another island, which seemed to be inhabited by natives. There wasn't a sufficient amount of time to investigate further. Thus, it unknown whether they are friend or foe.

Scouts investigated the Natives more, and they found them to be hostile and unwelcoming towards strangers. The Natives have kept their distance, allowing us to focus on setting up the colony. Huts have been built, giving us some shelter from the outside. Settlement seems to be going smoothly so far. There hasn't been much to report lately.

Eleanor gave birth today to a baby girl. We named her Virginia. She's the first child to be born in the new colony. People are celebrating her birth, as it's a good chance for them to relax and have fun. Everyone has been working hard since coming to the new colony, so they're very happy to be given a break. Things have been difficult since coming to this new land. We have been unable to collect more food, and there is not much for us to do here. Survival in Roanoke will not be possible, unless we are able to find a way to gather more resources form this land.

John White, our governor, left today for England. Our supplies have been running low, so he went to collect more. We should have enough to last, until he returns. The journey takes approximately three months. The food will be rationed, so that it lasts. The other colonists are unhappy about this, but there's nothing that we can do about it. We have tried growing more, but the crops failed. We will keep attempting it.

John still hasn't returned yet, even though it has been four months. Supplies are dangerously low, and the other colonists have been getting sick. Virginia has broken out in a fever, and her breathing is labored. We are not sure that she'll make it through the night.  Eleanor has been doing everything she can for her, but nothing has been working. We pray that John arrives soon.

Supplies are almost gone. John still hasn't arrived. The people are beginning to lose faith and are giving up on him. Scouts were sent out a week ago and just arrived. They discovered a friendly tribe of Natives who are willing to take us in. Everyone has begun packing up their stuff to move, and we are tearing down the huts for supplies. It should take about a week to get to the island where the Croatoans live. In case John does arrive here, I had a man write "Croatoan" on a tree, so he knows where to find us.

The Croatoans kindly accepted us into their tribe. They have been teaching us their way of life and how to survive in this country. Virginia is healthier now, as are the rest of the colonists. We would have perished in Roanoke, if it had not been for them. Everyone is doing their best to help out, but it is difficult adjusting to this new life. Since I do not expect anything new to happen, I am no longer going to be recording things in this journal. Roanoke failed. There's nothing left to add to its story.
