Demetria was lying in her bed, thinking of Ariel and wishing things were different. They had something, and she knew that Ariel felt it too. Just the week before Ariel suddenly started ignoring her, they had a moment. They were in Ariel's room doing some homework together. Demetria could remember it as if it were yesterday...

They were on Ariel's bed, their computers laid out in front of them. Ariel's light pink bed sheets were strewn across the floor and the bed. Neither of them cared. Demetria was acutely aware of Ariel's warm body beside hers. She could smell her perfume. It was floral, making Demetria think of a pink cloud.

They remained silent as they wrote their essays. Demetria always found it a bit hard to concentrate when she was with Ariel. Only she liked her a little too much to stay away.

She loved the feeling of being with her. It made her heart race.

"I'm so tired," Ariel groaned as she finished her essay. She rolled onto her back and stretched her limbs. Demetria quickly finished up her paper and closed her computer.

"You want to grab some dinner?" Demetria asked, looking to the time. Seven.

"Honestly, I just want to sleep. I'm not too hungry," she replied.

Demetria studied her face. Ariel always looked relaxed, even when tired. Her eyelashes were so long, and her short blonde hair framed her face perfectly.

"I'm not too hungry, either," Demetria told her, lying on her side and looking at Ariel's face. Her green eyes fluttered open, and she glanced to Demetria. She smiled slightly, and she rolled on to her side to face the other girl.

"You're so beautiful," Ariel said absently, making Demetria's heart skip a beat.

"So are you," she replied, reaching forward and touching her face.

For a split second, it felt as though the two might kiss. Only instead, Ariel put her arms around Demetria and rolled into her. Demetria's heart started to beat even faster as Ariel rested her head against Demetria's neck. They felt secure like they'd never felt before. Here in each other's arms, they both wished for the same thing: stay in this moment forever.

Demetria thought of that moment every day after it happened. She couldn't get it out of her mind. That was the moment she let herself fall. She thought that Ariel had done the same. Only now, she wasn't so sure anymore.
