Abby wiped the sweat of her forehead, then concentrated back on the dish she was cooking. Today some special, very rich guest had come to the restaurant for lunch and though he had reserved the whole place and no other people were there, he kept the kitchen busy.
Every few minutes the waitress would barge in to voice a changed or new order. One time he wanted a completely new set menu, the other time, he wanted to ingredients changed or to have him cooked something completely different from what they offered.
In the meantime, Abby was beyond annoyed, but she kept her cool and just kept cooking whatever order fluttered into her kitchen and shouting orders to her colleagues. As the chief in this restaurant, she had to stay professional and always do her best to keep the guests happy.
When finally, she had sent out the last main dish, she took a deep breath and allowed herself a low curse, which Rebecca, one of the waitresses, answered with a giggle, as she entered the kitchen.
"Done?"
"Yeah" Abby sighed and washed her hands "The dessert isn't my task anymore. Has our special guest decided what he wants?"
The young brunette shook her head and brushed some strands of her curly hair out of her face.
"No, they want the menu again after they're done with the main"
While rolling her eyes, Abby grabbed a towel and tried her hands "Perfect".
Rebecca fell silent, but kept dancing from one leg to the other, fiddling with her fingers nervously. This girl always had been easy to read.
"What is it?"
Her eyes widened in surprise at being caught so easily, then she casted them down.
"Hewantstoseeyou"
"What?"
The waitress had talked way to fast for Abby to understand a single word. She sighed and looked back up "He wants to see you. The guest, he asked for the chief to come to the table"
Abby groaned "Fine", then she checked her appearance in a sparkling pan that hung above her working place. He was a guest of the restaurant after all and to boot a very rich one, too, she had to look presentable.
"Ok, why don't the rest of you take a short break until Mister Money out there knows what he wants next?"
The other cooks mumbled an agreement, then trudged out through the kitchen's backdoor.
Smoothing down her cooking jacket, Abby stepped out into the dining room and walked towards the only occupied table.
She froze as she saw, who actually was sitting there.
"I should have known"
She crossed her arms and looked sternly into two deep brown eyes "Do you even know what chaos you created in my kitchen, Tony?"
The billionaire just smirked as he got up to greet the woman with a hug "Aw, come on Abby. I knew it's nothing that you couldn't handle", then with his arm still around her shoulder, Tony turned her towards a blonde woman, that was still sitting on the table "Chris, this is Abby. Gramp's girlfriend and the amazing cook, who made our lunch today"
The woman waved and smiled at Abby. Christine actually had seen Abby once at one of Tony's partys, but at that moment she and Steve had been a little...distracted.
(To know what had happened, you gotta read chapter 6 of my Tony fanfiction "No strings attached")
"And this is Christine Flannigan, my girlfriend"
"Oh, so you finally made it official?"
Abby giggled as she saw Tony's and Chris' surprised faces "You know that gossip is running fast, also in the tower. Everyone already was talking about when you finally stop making a fuss and get the girl"
A soft blush now was covering the blonde's face. She hadn't thought that her chaotic relationship with Tony had been that obvious, nor such a big topic. Abby padded her hand and smiled at her reassuringly "Don't worry. I went through the same when I started dating Steve or better when Tony decided that Steve's girlfriend needed to be introduced to the tower"
She shot said man a look, but he just innocently looked up at the ceiling and whistled some tune.
"As soon as something new interesting is happening they forget about you and in there are always strange things happening in the tower"
"I guess you are right" Chris smiled back at the brunette, feeling at least a little relieved.
"So, but now I will leave you to your date"
Abby removed Tony's arm and shoved him back onto his chair "Please, don't make the same fuss when ordering dessert. My people are already completely irritated"
With that she turned around and strode back into the kitchen, passing a very stunned Rebecca, who couldn't believe that you knew the great Tony Stark.
Abby winked at the girl but right as she was about to reach the door to the kitchen, she heard an unbelievably loud bang. Before she was able to register what was going on, the door came flying towards her, behind it a wall of fire. Abby was hit and thrown to the ground, the air knocked out of her lungs as the flames rolled passed her. Fortunately, the door, that still laid atop of her protected her from most of the fire.
Panicking, Abby tried to register what was going, but she was completely disorientated. Her head and body hurt from where she had been hit and banged on the floor, she could barely hear anything, and smoke was burning in her eyes. She tried to get up and push the door off her, but pain shot through her arm and shoulder and she weakly sank back down.
The next second, the weight on her was gone and worried brown eyes appeared in her range of vision. Fancy sunglasses were now sitting on Tony's nose and Abby believed to know that they were an interface for Jarvis. Tony said something, but she couldn't hear him, only was able to make out his lips moving. Very carefully, he helped Abby sit up, then placed his arms around her back and under her knees to lift her up. Abby slumped against his chest as the next events became a blur to her.
