"Tina." I said while walking over to her desk where she was typing up something. She's always finishing her paperwork early so the doctors are always trying to find things for her to do. She's a very hardworker and I respect her for that. "Yes?" she replied. "Can you give me information on patient Stacy Jones in room 519?" I asked. If i was going to be working with her might as well know what the deal is. Tina raised her eyebrow and stopped typing to look at me strangely, "Hm I suppose." she started looking through a drawer of files by her desk when finally she pulled out a fairly thing one with a sticker that read, "S. Jones,519" She hands me the folder, "I need this back before I clock out. You didn't get it from me." she said with a wink and began her work again. I thanked her and knocked on the patient's door. "Come in." I hear Logan say.
I walk into the room to see Stacy watching cartoons on the tv. "Hi Stacy." I say with a smile. "What did you need?" Logan asks, but not rudely just in a curious way. I shrug."I'm your new nurse for the next week or two so I just want to talk and get to know the both of you a little better." Stacy's eyes light up, "Really?" she asked excitedly. "Haha yes." I look at Logan, "So I took a look at her profile and noticed that she was just checked two days ago, right?" I asked. It was a bit strange that she's only been here for two days and she's already set for several lab testing and is hospitalized under special care so early. I already knew why though.
"Yes that's right." he said with a smile. I can look at him forever, he's too perfect to be single. "And why is that?" I asked. His smile faded to a frown, "She woke up and had an extreme fever and was vomiting a lot, then started getting purple patches all over her lower back and said that she was in a lot of pain. This was going on for two days so my family and I knew we had to check her into a hospital immediately." I saw a saddening look cross over Stacy's face. "Does your back still hurt now?" I asked with concern. I already knew her answer but just incase I asked anyways. She nodded, "I just want to go back to normal." and with that response she bursted into tears. "I'm sorry, I'll leave you guys alone for a little bit and maybe I can bring something?" I asked Logan, he just nodded and went to comfort Stacy as I left the room and sat by Tina. "What's wrong honey?" She asked. I just shrugged. Nothing was really wrong with me, I was just upset to see that poor girl so unhappy and hurt.
I flipped through her profile for about 10 minutes and researched what her symptoms might mean. I was still waiting for her blood results for about half an hour now. So far the research isn't going anywhere and nothing was coming up. FInally, Doctor Bryce came back to me with her blood results. I stood up and quickly gave Stacy's file back to Tina. "Kris." he said. I could tell by his tone of voice that it was something bad with her blood. I was hoping it was something simple like high cholesterol or something but it was something much terrible. "Yes Doctor?" he just handed me the paper with the blood results. "She has leukemia."
