You walk through the bare avenue and shiver as a gust of wind blew past your bare shoulders. You liked to take long walks alone at night to clear your mind of the thoughts that swam through your mind throughout the previous day. There was something incredibly soothing about the street during the witching hour. It was a silence like no other. A silence that one might mistake for eerie. A a silence that was comforting. A silence that assured you that the world was aware of your presence and made you aware of this by gifting you a scene that is uniquely crafted for your eyes only.
You heave a heavy breath of hot air into your hands as you took your usual seat on the rusty wooden bench nearest to the blinking stoplight. You began your nightly ritual of watching the lights change from green, to yellow, and finally red- only this time the process did not repeat itself as it usually did.
Only when the light turns  red do you notice the figure directly across the street. You squint, yet still fail to distinguish the body before you. The light should have changed by now but instead began to blink frantically. You shift your gaze from the light back to the figure but to your surprise it appeared before you. You gasp quietly, interrupting the peaceful silence that once engulfed the scenery. A cat unlike any other you had seen before stood before you. In front of you stood a six foot tall black feline. It gently, placed a furry finger on your lips to shush you.
"Don't be afraid," the creature whispers in a husky tone. I love the night as much as you do."
You nod quickly like a cartoon character trying to grasp the absurdity of it all.
He takes a seat in the empty space beside you and lays one leg over the other. You stare at the sight wondering if this was all just a dream, if you were in a coma, or yet even worse you were already dead in the real world and entered into a reality made up by your deep dark subconscious.
Suddenly, the animal transforms into a human with a snap of his fingers. a man who looked a hair older than you. He was quite the looker, with eyes a glistening caramel, but green in the moonlight.
"Better?' he gestures towards his lean body. Silence fills the space between the both of you as you were still in shock from what just happened, you nodded slowly, secretly wanting to know more about the stranger. "I see. You're not much of a talker are you?" sitting down next to you once again he continued, "I like that." He stares up at the full moon with untold stories written in his gaze.
You were scared- yet you wanted to know more about him. You didn't know why, but somehow you knew he wouldn't hurt you.
"I've always loved the night more than the day even when I was completely human." He smiles mischievously, "I remember when I was a young boy I'd always escape through my bedroom window at two or so A.M just to sit on a hill near my place and trace shapes on the stars like connect the dots on coloring books." You smile knowingly.  He shifts his gaze to rest his hazel green eyes onto your dark brown ones.
"Hey, would you rather be awake or asleep?" You were thrown off  by the unexpected question, but the response had been almost second nature to you. It was as if you had been waiting for someone to ask you that question for as long as you could remember.
"Asleep" you say looking at the male dead in his gleaming eyes.

       A silence followed.

He smiles boyishly, "Then you're not like the others." In one instantaneous movement he leaps from the wobbly seating onto a brick wall that led into the town's forbidden forest. The figure swiftly holds out its palm and cut open the stillness of the night.

"I'm Brian. Come with me and you'll never regret it."
