"Jae!!!"You scream into the abyss that encompassed town's desolate forest.
Salty tears meet your lips as you realize soon enough that you are alone, for the second time in your life. Only this time, the emptiness you felt when Wonpil left you was nothing compared to how your heart ached right now. A pale hand reached out from behind and squeezed your shoulder gently.
"Do you love him?" A calm yet, cold voice breaks the silence..
Your heart drops at his words.  Jae was never more than your "best friend". In your head that was all you really needed. He showed you the life wasn't all black and white. Time and time again he brought you back into the light when you opted for darkness. He was truly your reason for breathing, for existing. Was this, love?
Puddles begin to overflow inside your eyes as you thought long and hard about your actions. Who were you really? Why couldn't you let go of the past? Why couldn't you be happy?
You squeeze your eyes shut as you could not wanting to face this reality.
"Please Y/N. Look at me." Brian pleads.
You turn to face a pair of soft, glowing green eyes.
"I'm sorry Brian. I have to find myself before I can face you"
You sprint into the woodlands as fast as you could. As tears stream down your cheeks you run harder. You want to feel something, anything. You run until you couldn't and the burning inside your chest was enough to cloud the unavoidable emptiness you felt deep within your soul. Your chest moved up and down as you struggled to breathe properly. You made it to the street that connected the two worlds together.
From where you stood, you could see a hunched over figure sitting on the rusty wooden bench where it all began. As if the world had mercy for you. You were able to distinguish an all too familiar pair of glistening spectacles pointed right at your direction.
You sat next to the boy whose presence was enough to calm down the noise in your head.
"Jae, I didn't mean what I said back there-"
"I don't want your pity" the male interrupted.
"Please Jae I don't want to lose you" you beg.
Smiling bitterly Jae kept his silence. "I was an idiot from the start. I played a game I couldn't handle and I fell. I fell for you that first day I met you but chose to keep my feelings to myself. I thought finally met someone who wasn't fake like the others. I thought 'finally, someone worth calling my friend."
He stood up to face you. "In no way do I expect you to reciprocate my emotions, as you made that damn clear but... I have to say this now. So please, hear me out." He paused and took a deep breath.
"I like you y/n. I've always liked you. From the moment I chose to be your partner in that stupid class to now. You are talented, caring, and you make me look forward to everyday. You put yourself into everything you do, especially your art and keep going even though you feel like dying inside. You're extraordinary Y/N."
A silence follows where only the chirp of crickets and the electricity powering the street light can be heard.

"I'm sorry Jae."
"You have nothing to apologize for. You did nothing wrong. Let's just pretend this never happened alright? We'll continue to be the inseparable best friends we always were and maybe someday you'll have the balls to confess your feelings for me too" Jae ends his speech with a wink.
Blood rises to your cheeks in response to the blunt comment. But instead of punching the idiot in the arm like you should have, you ascend from the rickety bench and hug Jae as tightly as you could. This was all you could give him at your present state. You are undeserving and shameless, but Jae made you feel as if you are much, much more than that.
