You begin to reach out towards his slender fingertips until the image before you is soon reduced to an unidentifiable blur of color. You blink nervously trying to regain visibility of the picture. You didn't want to forget. Don't forget. Please don't forget me.

You are jolted to your senses with a familiar voice yelling, "Y/N! Wake up we're gonna miss our painting class it's almost noon!"
The hands that brought you back to your senses were indeed those of your classmate and best friend Jae. Was it all a surreal dream? It couldn't be. Nothing had ever felt so real to you. But how could something so real and tangible already be fading from your memory? I guess dreams weren't meant to last forever and that was the tear-jerking truth.
From past experience you knew that the best dreams are the hardest to remember. No matter how hard you fight yourself to hold your  memory in your strain of consciousness, all that remains time after time is a warm, indescribable emptiness. It was a bittersweet feeling which had nowhere to return to. The bottom line was, there's was actual way to prove dreams really do exist, And that was the most bizarre part of it all.

"Are you okay? You look like you're about to cry. Sorry I woke you up. I thought it'd be the right thing to do y'know" Jae said scratching his head in reluctance.

You sat up on your bed and rubbed your droopy eyes.
"I'm fine Jae. Let's just get this over with." You say in a raspy morning voice.

Ah yes.You had responsibilities. Classes to attend, homework to complete, and to top it all off, you had a part time job at the university's godawful dining hall. Well, at least you had a friend like Jae to wake you up when you slept in and apply for the same job so you wouldn't feel lonely. Perhaps reality wasn't so lousy with Jae by your side.

You and Jae speed walk as fast as you can with the bothersome art portfolios dangling from your shoulders to your sides along with having to haul your toolbox ( or should you say, plastic-bag-wannabe-toolbox-instead-because- you're-a- broke-college-student ) to carry all of your painting supplies in the other arm. With every rushed footstep, the heavy art board bangs at your thighs. Fortunately Jae was blessed with the legs of a basketball player, and one regular step was twice the size of yours.

Jae comfortably checks all his social media accounts as you breathe heavily trying to keep up with his giraffe-like strides. He smirks and takes a bite of his sandwich.

"You must've been having a nice wet dream because you kept moaning something like B-B-B-r-r.. I thought I lost you for a sec there" he adds in between mouthfuls.

You blush furiously and slap the boy's shoulder. "I wasn't having a wet dream I just-I- How did you get in my dorm anyway??" You argue in attempt to change the subject.

"Wow you really don't remember anything about last night do you?" He says pausing mid-sentence to pick out the tomato from his BLT.

You frown nervously, sweating not only because you'd been walking at the speed of light, but also because you didn't know what you were capable of while you were unconscious. Jae could have some serious dirt to blackmail you with. The idiot continued to chomp away leaving you hanging for a good minute until you noticed he was purposely leaving you in suspense just to mess with your fragile and disoriented mind.

"JAE!" you screech, halting your footsteps. You breathe heavily, on the verge of tears. You hated that you couldn't be angry without wanting to cry out of frustration.

He adjusted his attitude noticing that he struck a chord with you. He then said seriously, "I found you asleep outside on a park bench in the middle of the night. I kept calling and texting you for an hour until I realized something was up. The way I was able to find you was through the location finder on Snapchat." He furrowed his eyebrows and finishes off the last of his sandwich that somehow looked cheerless as well.

"I was really worried about you Y/N. You don't know the kind of dangerous situation you put yourself in. God knows what could've happened to you if I didn't come in time."

A cloud of guilt instantly comes over you. How could you have been so careless? Jae was the one thing in your life that kept you going. Whatever fantasy you had last night was no excuse to treat your best friend- no, your ONLY friend so hastily.

"Luckily you at least had your room key on you so I just took your corpse back to your room- which by the way you need vacuum because, yo I almost stepped on a sharp twig from that last 3D Design project and it was not pretty-"

You cut him off with a sealed embrace. This was the most you could do for him without bursting into tears. His shoulders went stiff for a minute, take aback by the unexpected action. Then slowly, but surely, you felt his muscles relax into your arms whilst returning the favor.

"I'm so sorry Jae" you say with a sniffle "I don't deserve a friend-"

He rubs circles on your back and quietly shushes your self loathing. The two of you stand in that position until you calm down and revert back to your usual self.
You fish your phone out from your backpack only to realize you two were half an hour late!

"SHIT JAE WE'RE THIRTY MINUTES LATE!" you yell at the lanky male.

"I realized that like thirty minutes ago" coughed the figure with wire rimmed eyes.

"JAE!!!" you shriek as you begin to sprint as if your life depended on it.
