As I left the principles office I felt relieved but yet at the same time confused, what relieved me was the thought that I could stay in the school, what confused me was the implications pressed upon me indicating that people now thought of me as a...
''defiant brute''.
I heard a whisper I knew that it was directed at me.I was going to turn around but then I thought, I've been turning around alot lately so I just laughed and walked away.
Defiant! no i am the furthest thing from that, the way how these people use defiant is not the way it should be. Defiant is to be disobedient, how can that little incident label me ,the quiet girl, defiant.
''Everley its your turn to read your poem. Please come up to the front.''
The teacher called me up to the board.I started reading my poem.
''oh, how the ignorance corrupts the young people of this generation.how they succumb to the chance of fame, they think of themselves and of others not, oh how these are the children of today.
While mothers party , children worry with uncontrollable hunger, while they have fun, the children believe that they are done, the youth have no idea what its like to be alone thats why I say the words of wisdom, to be heard by those at the back who think looks are all there is to life in who think status is all there is to a being .
Does one not think for that kids future for that mothers child? If I could change the human body I would give them living hearts that feel for the needy, that feel for the poor.''
As I finished my poem I looked up to see teary faces, after a few minutes of silence I was overwhelmed by the sound of clapping.
