Chapter 8: Wishes

It was Friday and Renesmee hadn't seen Jacob in a week.
"Huh? Nothing. I'm fine," Haylee rolled her eyes at Renesmee as she sighed. Did I really look that depressed? I felt that depressed. I missed my Jacob and I needed to see him. It hurt to not see him or talk to him. School had passed lightly and she couldn't help but think about Jacob. Haylee tried to cheer her up but it wasn't working. Renesmee felt like they were keeping a secret from her. The final bell rang and Haylee gave her a cheery goodbye. Renesmee walked slowly out to the parking lot. It wasn't raining but clouds still hovered in the air, letting no sun shine through. She spotted Rosalie's red convertible and climbed in behind Alice.
"Why are you guys dressed like that?" Alice had on her silver dress and Rosalie was wearing her red dress.
"We always dress like this. But we have a few errors to run so it'll probably be a bit later when we get home."
"Okay," Renesmee's voice was dead.
"He's just a dog," Rosalie said from the front seat. Renesmee wasn't sure if she had intended for Renesmee to hear it or not. Renesmee growled and she laughed quietly.
"It's not funny! Imagine being away from Emmett if he was your best friend!" Rosalie twitched and Renesmee knew that she understood.
"We know Nessie. You'll see Jacob soon and he'll explain everything." she eyed her doubtfully and Alice laughed at her expression.
"You already know though! Both of you do!"
"Dogs have problems keeping their mouths shut though," Rosalie growled, tightening her grip on the steering wheel.
"Just trust us Nessie. Jacob isn't leaving you for some girl. We promise," Renesmee sighed and looked away. Her feelings for Jacob had changed so much. She wanted him to be so much more than her best friend. But he would always only be her protector and her best friend. Rosalie and Alice made many stops, climbing in and out of the car. They picked up bags and other things, nothing that Renesmee was paying attention to. When we finally hit the road to the way home it was about seven and Renesmee was annoyed. Rosalie pulled into the driveway and Renesmee stared at the trees, which were wrapped in thousands of twinkling lights. She shook her head. She was surprised to see that the house was completely pitch black but she could hear quiet breathing. Alice cleared her throat and shoved her up to the door. Renesmee looked at her like she was stupid and opened the door.
"Surprise!" Renesmee jumped back at all the screams, into Rosalie's arms.
Inside her house were a bunch of people. Bright lights sparkled everywhere and there were balloons and cake. Everyone from school was packed into the room, including Haylee and Carter and many others. Behind them were Seth, Quil, Embry, Leah, Jared, Paul, Rachael, Brady, and Collin. But behind the werewolves was the rest of her family. Her mum and dad, Carlisle and Esme, Emmett, Jasper, and now Rosalie and Alice. But everywhere she looked around the room and she could not see Jacob. Had my best friend not come to my birthday party? She glided through all the people, smiling and laughing. Emmett and Jasper messed with the sound system and started the music.

Everyone began to dance as Alice led Renesmee up thestairs. She pushed her into her closet and Renesmee sighed as Alice held outthe white dress. Renesmee pulled it on and slipped a pair of blue heels on.
"Thank-you Alice. Ineeded this." She laughed and linked her arm through hers.
"We have plenty ofsurprises for you as well." Renesmee rolled her eyes at her. Aliceled Renesmee down the stairs. There were plenty of gasps as she came down thestairs but she went straight to her parents. Her mum hugged her tightly.
"Oh Nessie! You lookso beautiful!" If she could cry Renesmee was sure she would. Herfather smiled at her and her mum leaned her head against his shoulder. Emmettchuckled at Renesmee and Jasper winked from up at the DJ post. Renesmee hugged Esmeand Carlisle and thanked them.
"It was all Alice andRose," She hugged Rosalieviolently and Rosalie smiled brightly at her.
"Anything for our Nessie!" Emmett's arms wrapped aroundher waist and they disappeared into the crowd of dancers.
"Where's Jacob?" Renesmeewhispered. Alice's face tightened, not answering her. Nahuel offeredher his hand and she forced a smile onto her face. She was passed around a lot,dancing with her friends and all of her family. Emmett thought it was quitehilarious to spin her around and around until she could barely see straight. Alicemade her dance with her dad. She leaned her head against his shoulder.
"I'm sorry Nessie. Wedid invite him," She already knew he was talking about Jacob. Shesucked in a deep breath.
"It's okay," Renesmeemumble. He released her when a slow song started for couples. He walked towardsher mother and she watched as all of her family grabbed their true loves anddanced across the floor with them. Depression spread over her as she watchedthem, tears sparkling in her eyes. The person that she loved was not here.After a minute she heard a deep voice clear behind her. She turned expecting tosee Quil or Embry. Her heart stopped for a moment. There Jacob was. Wearing apair of cut off shorts and no shirt.
"Dance with me?" was all he said. Shesmiled and took his hand. He led her to the middle and she leaned her headagainst his chest. His arms wrapped around her and she sighed.
"Thanks for coming," She whispered. Hepulled her tighter to him.
"I couldn't stay away." She looked up athim, knowing he was telling the truth.
"Why?" He didn't answer.His eyes strayed towards her father who nodded, his eyes tight.
"Because. You know howyou wondered who I had imprinted with?" She nodded, tears stinging her eyes.
"Well I did imprint ona baby. But at that time I just wanted her to be safe and to be happy. As shegot older I became her best friend. But now I love her. More than anyone I've ever loved. She wouldalways be mine, whether she accepted it or not. But now that she's old enough its timethat I told her," Tears stung her eyes and rolled down her face.
"Who is she Jake?" Her voice was barelya whisper. The song shifted into a very quiet Claire De Lune track. He sighed,looking frustrated.
"I love you Nessie.From the moment I saw you I knew that I wanted you for..... forever. Iimprinted with you Nessie," She stood there, frozen for a moment.
"Me? You love me?" He laughed andkissed her forehead.
"Always have Nessie.Always will," she wrapped her arms tight around him.
"I love you Jacob!" She cried, slingingher arms around his neck. He sighed in relief, picking her up off her toes andspinning her around just slightly. He sat her down and tilled her face up tohis. He kissed her softly, like butterflies fluttering against her lips and shesighed when he pulled away. To her it felt perfect.
