Sequel to... Rainbow

I woke up to the sound of birds singing and realised I was on my own. I had been working with Jamie for three months now, and we had both learned much about how to control our powers. Things had been pretty normal for all of that time, apart from us both blatantly defying the law, of course, but we could both feel something building. A presence in the world that no one dared to think about. They were building up their power to oppose us, so we just better be ready when they came.

I stretched out my arms and felt the fire fizz beneath my fingertips. I aimed it at the camp fire, and it roared into life, the rainbow hued flames flickering on the damp wood. I felt his presence before I saw him, a huge white wolf, silhuetted against the green trees.

I stared in amazement. White wolves were the simble of magic, of what is no more. They had all been hunted down and killed many years ago. Yet here he was. As I watched in awe, he lowered his head to his front paws, a bow. From behind him emered a female and four cubs.

Sudenly I realise what he was asking. His family needed protection from the spears, arrows and swords of men. They needed us. I looked behind me to find Jamie standing as still as I had been. I turned back to the wolves and nodded. We would help them.
