The wolves slept next to the fire that night. As usual, Jamie and I took turns to take watch. Each time we swapped, a member of the wolf family would wake and lie with us to keep us company. In the morning we ate breakfast, then went out to hunt for more food. I could hear the wolves tracking us. Keeping our pace steady.
Sudenly a rustle from above caught my attention. Hot, sticky liquid trailed down my neck. Slowly pain built up down my back. So hot I was on fire, but so cold that I was freezing. I screamed and in the last moments before I blacked out, I heard evil laughter echoing in my ears. Then everything went dark.
I felt Jamie's hands lifting me up, the wolves backs supported me, as we moved slowly through the forest. Hands merged with fur, and I was flying...
I didn't know where I was. Everything was dark, as though we were in a cave. We. I knew somehow that I was not alone.
"We know where you are, " The echos built up around me until I no longer knew where the voice was coming from. "Where ever you go, we will find you. You are destined to die. Born to die."
I screamed and sweat trickled down my neck, pain building as it ran over my burn. It was only a dream. But I knew at once that is was right. They had found us. We had to leave. Fast.
