I awake to the blazing sun beating down on my eyelids. I wake up to see my brothers are still asleep. No, not asleep, very tired. I sit up and stretch out. It's been three days now sense I made my first steps and father still hasn't returned. It struck me then, I'm extremely hungry. No father, no food. Mother couldn't leave us to go look for him... Could she?
She sits at the edge of the cave on the cliff. She hasn't taken me out of the nest to help me walk so I practised in the nest for as long as I could until hunger took over.
My brothers weren't fighting, my mother wasn't talking and I started walking. It's like the last few days flipped my life upside down, both in a good way and in a bad . It wasn't until hours later mother decided to leave the nest...
She promised to be back as soon as she could and told us she is leaving to find food and more importantly father. My brothers fall over and go back to sleep but I simply stare at her with huge blue eyes. She looks back and almost grins, something I haven't seen in days. It comforts me. I keep starring when she jumps of the edge and flys out of sight. Soon as I can't see her the confidence fades into a big endless pit of nothing. I watch the way she flys away and stare down at my own wings. An idea sparks into my mind but I quickly push it away. It's probably safest anyway. But like she said, she will be back soon.
Half an hour passes and I'm awake some how. I drift of slowly and just before I fall into my dreams a dragon cry breaks through the air.
It makes me jump. It's not the cry of my mother nor my father, as far as I can reconize not even the cry of a night fury. I crawl up the nest and peak over the edge. The second I get up something flashes across the opening of the cave.
It was a purple blur, not black nor navy blue. Bright purple in some places darker in others. It looked bigger then a night fury, but if it was not by much. Pale yellow spikes covered the dragon's back tail and head. It circled back two or three times around the cave and then It was gone. The cries stopped and all want silent and I could sleep.

I wake up on my own this time. I yawn and my stomach growls at the same time. I assume it's been almost two days sense our mom left. I miss my parents more them I ever have before. I have begun to dream about them. And the dreams of them coming home turned into them never coming back.
I stare at the full moon outside. It's a nice night out, cool, but not to cold. I now understand what it feels like to wait for someone for such a long time, that must be what it's like for my parents to wait for each other on the cliff.
I reach out over the edge of the nest with one paw then two. My head nearly makes it over the top. My brothers are sleeping in a big heap on the other side of the twig bowl so maybe they might not wake up. I lunge my tiny body over the edge of the nest and this time instead of my wings getting in the way I use them to my advantage. I finally fall over onto the hard stone ground. It's cold on my feet compared to the nest.
I walk with confidence not even stumbling as a reach the opening. I gaze out at the moon in aw. It's so beautiful so bright, so....big. I sit and raise up my wings in comparison. I grin like my mother always does. Just at that moment I feel lighter, I feel prouder, I feel free.
I stand back up just as the cold gets to me and I desire once again the warmth of my little home. I turn around just as two large almost bird like clawed purple feet grasp around my waist.
