I am in San Pedro Sula for no particular reason. Its afternoon and I am sitting in a very fancy cafe, arguing with my mom about whether the delicious fried crepe I am eating actually counts as a crepe (it is a bit more like a cannoli really). As I am leaving a friend at another table catches my eye. We catch up a bit and laugh over the chance meeting.
Then...she is there. Straight black hair that comes to her shoulders, big almond shaped eyes, a face that is slightly odd but still cute. Before I know it we are sitting at the counter talking our heads off. We have met before but I don't remember when. We talk about what we are in the city for and what we each have been up to lately. We talk about so many things I can't remember them all, but I know we talk about listening to the music from the Hobbit while doing laundry.
We are walking down the sidewalk towards my front gate. It is one of those cool, clear nights on the edge of summer. As we get close to the gate I think of stealing a kiss before she is gone. We walk through the gate and our shoulders are pushed together. I get a sudden surge of courage but I settle for quickly shoving my hand into hers. She squeezes it in approval.
We walk a few steps down the road before either of us speak. "You have a car somewhere near here?" I ask , hoping that it is not too near.
"No I have got a ride coming."
"Oh, did they ask you to meet them at the corner or something?""No," her eyes gleam and her mouth just hints at a smile.
"So we are walking just to walk?" I ask with a faint teasing in my voice. She throws back her head in a quick laugh and turns to me, walking backwards for a few steps.
"Yes," she smiles slightly and brushes her hair behind her shoulder with her free hand. Then she brings it to meet mine and we are dancing.
We are off the road now and are moving through a vacant lot. It is full of big rocks and we aren't good dancers but we glide over them naturally. Our bodies are so close now that our cheeks are nearly touching. I wish I could always be here, this comfortable easy intimacy. I turn my head and give her a quick peck on her right cheek. She pulls back and looks at me, her mint green eyes widening in pleased surprise. I can see her lips start to speak but before she can I step closer and press my own lips onto them.
For a moment the world disappears. There is nothing else, not even me or her. Just her lips on mine. So warm, so soft but slowly building in pressure from a gentle touch to a passionate pushing. We part and I wake up. It takes me a minute to realize that it was just a silly dream. Why did it have to feel so real!?
