I'm a complete mess

Chapter 14: Surprise! Surprise!

     Katherine's P.O.V.

" Your dad doesn't come back until tomorrow right?" Kate asked as she sat down next to me and shifted in the seat to make herself comfortable.

  " Yeah I can't wait" I rolled my eues and said in a sarcastic tone.

" You know you could move in with me anytime right?" Kate said as she gave me a sly smile and shrugged her shoulders.

" Yeah I know Kate but you know I can't do that. Once I am 18 which is in a couple of months I will be able to move out amd live happily ever after" I said as I closed my eyes and pressed my forhead against the cold table top.

" I know that but what makes you think it's ok to ket your father beat you until you 18 birthday pops up" Kate said as she crossed her arms across her chest and leaned back in the chair.

" It's ok im used to my father's abusive ways so it's no biggie" I said in a low voice.

" Whatever Kat you know I told this to you for the millionth time and I know nothing is going to change your hard headed ways" she said as she put extra emotion to the last words. I didn't dare speak another word knowing my consequences. If I argued with Kate she would give me the silent treatment and wouldn't talk to me for days and I wasn't going to risk my friendship with Kate.

         The bell immediately rung and Kate stood up from the chair she was sitting on and walked over to the back of her class where she was assigned to be seated. I shifted my attention to the front of the class staring until the teacher started the lesson. The teacher started her lesson and rambled on about something thay I really didn't care for. For the whole class period I only stared at the clock waiting until class ended. I was too tired so I layed my head against the table and fell asleep. It was nice because nothing bothered me but only the fact that I was scared of getting caught.

     

     The bell then rang dismissing first period and I was surprised that I didn't get caught. I grabbed my school bag and headed out the classroom and walking away to second period.

       All the classes were the same. As usual....Boring. The school day passed by but lunch had started. I quickly walked over to the lunch line and paid for my food. As I turned around I already saw Kate sitting on our original lunch table and I propped down carefully and sat down in front of her and taking a bit of my hamburger in my mouth. She looked at me and I wondered what was wrong with her.

  " So you know how I have been dating Dylan for a while?" she asked me waiting for my answer. Dylan was the boy of kate's dreams. Dylan was Kate's neighbor amd they have been dating for 3 months and Kate has been head iver heels for him.

   " Yes what's your point?" I asked her swallowing my food.

" He asked me to be his girlfriend!"she whispered screamed and she jumped up and down in her seat while clapping her hands.  I reached over and gave her a hug to congratulate her. I was literally happy for her because Kate deserved  being happy and I couldn't be any happier for her.

"I can't believe he asked me to be his girlfriend" she said giving me her 'I'm so happy' smile.

" So when do I get to meet the lucky guy?" I asked her as I took another bite of my hamburger and looked at her with a questioning look.

"Soon very soon" she said as she smiled from ear to ear I could tell she was genuinely happy about this. And I was happy for her.... for my best friend. We sat their in silence while we ate. As soon as the bell rung I hugged Kate goodbye and walked away from her. When I walked away from Kate I made sure to throw away my tray and walk to the last class for the day. Inside me I had a bad feeling as if something were about to happen and I hated the feeling.
