James's POV:
As we close into the checkpoint. I look towards her while she is scooping a spoonful of her ice cream.
I started tapping the steering wheel while letting out a big sigh. Making my sister annoyed in the process.
"How's that ice cream, sis?" I asked with a smile on my face.
She turned to my left and saw me lookin' at her while having a spoonful of ice cream, ready to be eaten.
"Obviously delicious, because... Is coffee flavor! and you do know I love that flavor right?"
She looked at me with glistering eyes, makes me wanna cringe a lot."I know that obviously, I still prefer cookies and cream ya know that right?" I look at her back with a confident tone in my voice.
"Yeah, I know bro. Now focus on driving, I don't want to start a debate here." Her voice became serious while staring at me with an annoyed look.
"Fine...just hold my ice cream, it's on the cup holder." I position my hands firmly on the wheel.
"Alright, bro." She grabbed the ice cream from the cup-holder spot, then place it on the floor mattress.
I saw the sign saying "Stop, Checkpoint ahead" I downshifted my car to slow down.
We pulled on the checkpoint, there were 2 guards with their rifles slung behind them, one on the left and one on the right.
The guard on the left approached us. I have a feeling that this one is strict.
I rolled down my window before the guard could tap my driver's side window.
"State your business?" He had a grumpy voice, with a serious look on his face.
"We're from Chicago, and we are gonna move here in Kentwell," I said it nervously.
Did I say it right? I hope I did, don't want to go back to Chicago again.
"Papers, please?" The guard asks with a grumpy tone, trying to intimidate me or maybe even scare the living hell out of me.
I pushed the second compartment on top of me with the zip bag in it. I grabbed the bag and search for the papers needed for passing the border patrol.
On the other hand, Jamie is having the time of her life with her ice cream without a care in the world, what do I expect? Jamie's...Jamie.
I can just hear her really having a good time...ugh...only if she can feel my pain right now.
I searched through the papers then quickly grabbed the paper at the end saying "Kentwell, Colorado". I grabbed the paper and quickly handed it to the guard.
"Alright...I'll check these out. I have my eye on you..." He stared down right through my soul with a voice that I'll never forget.
The guard walks off, going to his partner, checking the papers I've given to him.
I let out a big sigh of relief.Jamie tug my shirt while holding her small Ice Cream tub. I don't know what's it's, but it's ice cream.
"Are you okay?" She asked crossing her arms.
"Yeah...I guess." I gulped in fear.
The guard approached us, with the paper in-hand.
Something tells me that things are looking up pretty good, finally!
"Alright, you're free to go. Welcome to Kentwell, Colorado." He smirks.
"Oh and here." He folds the paper into half and threw the paper inside the car, hitting my lap.
"Now get the hell out of here." He grunted.
